I have these same bars that I picked up from a thrift store for a few bucks so I can't comment on the price and whether or not it's good. They're sturdy and support my 180lb frame without much worry. I use them in my basement on my stall mats and they don't really move at all. The grip portion of them has started to split due to extended use but aside from that they're great.
Was going to get these for my living room setup but they only go to 35 inches high which is a bit low and the main con is they have to be bolted together. I originally thought they were a sliding lock pin design so the can be resized and stored quickly but that's not the case
This can be used for a variety of exercises, other than dips. Eg:
L-sit
Planche
Handstand
Back Lever
Front Lever
Knee/Leg Raises
Bodyweight Rows
Incline Push-Up (on its side)
These are easy to put in the closet when not in use, offer a few exercises not possible on a tower's dip bars, and are much cheaper than a tower. The pull-up bar is the single benefit a tower has over this, which some people may not need/want, and if they do, they could always grab a cheap doorway pullup bar. Towers require significantly more room, as they are not easily stored away. This item will definitely suit many people's needs better than a tower.

I know it's not same product (or is it?) but form factor is same, at least. I've been using it for a few months now and I like it. Am about 6', 240lbs. I do have a full power rack (Titan T-3) so thought about getting add-on dip bars for that for about same price...but opted for these so could easily put them away. Have been happy, bottomline.
I'd get the titan dip attachment, I just ordered a rogue matador attached. You can use them for leg raises and even pullups
I hung 2 ropes from a pull-up bar with some plastic tubes at the end scavenged from an old weight lifting machine.
Builds more muscles. It's much harder to do a dip when it's not fixed.
I've actually had this specific set on my watchlist for a while and $50 is the going rate for these. I just looked and saw the red for $54 and that's the most expensive I've seen them. I'm sure you might be able to prove me wrong with camel^3, but I would consider $40 or less to be a good deal here.

This is essentially a different exercise. Your method puts a lot more focus on your core. While harder to do, it doesn't necessary work the same muscles. While you may work 'more' muscles in your style exercises, you won't be able to work specific muscles as hard a regular dip movement would. So if you goal is to improvement triceps or chest muscles with the dip, then a stationary method is much better exercise than yours.
It really depends on the specific goal on which exercise is better. They perform different functions.
It looks like it would be wobbly, and if you look at some of the bottom reviews it says it is. Havent decided if I will get it or not, but if I do I will probably enhance it with some JB weld. Having it strong and set in one position is better than it being wobbly and fall apart. Might paint it when it's new to weatherproof it too. Trick is be organized, have a two day plan and dont take tooo much on-hands time.

This guy thinks the harder the exercise the more muscle. Hey, jabroni, why not balance a beach ball on your head while you are at it for added muscle growth!?!
Got these for $50 a few months back in red color. Work as advertised and seem sturdy. I didn't bother using the connecting bar for the bottom though - in theory it's supposed to keep them equidistant and more sturdy, but it wasn't easy to adjust the length and seemed counterproductive.

Would rather pay a little more than double and get a workout tower that does pullups, pushups, crunches etc
Not sure why everyone is hating on your comment, I completely agree. This thing seems silly to get just for dips, might as well spend a little more and get something that does more
