Cool, thanks! So I could still use a hub.

The difference here, if I understand correctly: there is no PD on gaming laptops so would need to plug in power. Net difference = two plugs to the laptop, a USB C cable plus power cable. Right?

(I know, first world problems.)
Correct, you'd have 2 cables (since the laptop appears to not support charging over usb-c).

For docking stations check out Plugable or Dell. Avoid like the plague the no-name Chinese brand docks on Amazon - you want a company that will be in it for the long haul that you can trust to fix compatibility issues via firmware updates.

I severely recommend this as an IT professional, if the laptop allows. Do it.
Can you simply use whatever charge management tools hp offers to disable charging until batter gets below some really low threshold?

It can overload from the constant stress and swell up. Not a problem if you're going to mine for a week or two but for a year or more it's safer.
Makes sense, thanks!

Yup, I've been using this for nearly a year and it's been stable:
https://www.belkin.com/us/p/P-F4U097/

Main needs were 4K@60, audio out, and high output PD.

It won out over the CalDigit one that's very popular for me due to aesthetics:
https://www.caldigit.com/ts3-plus/

I can also speak to the HP one that I got for my wife, which has also been stable:

For anyone looking, keep in mind Thunderbolt 4 is coming.

Something to keep in mind ordering this. Its impossible to cancel and if for whatever reason you have to return it, get ready for a ride to hell and back. Paypal protection applies BUT HP fights back and responds aggressively to Paypal claims.

Just refusing delivery might not help if it is shipped from China, and some retailers (e.g., Dell) do not accept refused packages without a RMA number. Maybe that has changed but I had that issue with Dell sometime back.

Nevertheless, I ordered this using Paypal + AMEX. Amex is usually very good with claims.

As a 15.6"... this is the best deal around by far.

I wish they had a 17.3" model.

Also on hp website says you need a rma # for return and if one does not accept delivery you refund can get delayed or denied and the customer is responsible for it if it gets lost or stolen. https://store.hp.com/us/en/cv/ret...exchanges#!

Technical question: I currently use ThrottleStop to undervolt my CPU on my EVOO laptop. The existing BIOS does not have the ability to alter such things. Do HP laptops have decent BIOS that allow under-volting, etc. or should I continue to use Throttlestop?
I have an Omen laptop from 2018. You can't undervolt in the BIOS, and I also use Throttlestop to do that. This may be different on this machine of course.

Thanks! Another noob question:

Also, is $70 good deal to get Windows 10 Pro instead? Any reliable way to get upgrade for cheaper?

I heard from somewhere you can use Windows 7 Pro/Windows 8 Pro/etc key (retail version and not OEM(?)) to upgrade to Windows 10 Pro if you still have them around?
