Do not expose yourself to the light (unless it is in a closed box). It just just too dangerous!! You may not get viral/bacterial infection, but will surely get cancer. Do not do it !!!

Especially your eyes. Need to get some UV safety glasses to use it.

How does this compare to putting your phone in the sun for a few minutes?

These things don't work. NONE have been proven to kill COVID, nor even get close to the 99.9% germ killing they claim. And those wands are useless. Only industrial strength UVC units have any effect and use time plus high intensity.

Have a UV disinfecting device? Most don't live up to claims and can be harmful: Health Canada reviewing sale of unapproved products following CBC News investigation:

"An effective UV wand or device must employ [very dangerous] UVC light, and typically emit a dose of UVC that falls between 220 and 280 nanometers. The majority of consumer UV devices on the market are likely using the wrong type of UV light or a light that simply isn't strong or powerful enough, according to experts."

Easier, cheaper and more effective: wipe your stuff down with sanitizer or disinfectant designed for specific products.

It's well known that direct sunlight damages OLED screens because of UV. Even PhoneSoap (which is trying to be the "household name" in phone sanitation) straight up tells you prolonged exposure to UV light can damage your phones plastic...

If sunlight will damage oled then isn't it likely that phone makers use a UV coating or film over the screen?

You would want UVC which you will not get from sunlight. UVC radiation from the sun does not reach the earth's surface because it is blocked by the ozone layer in the atmosphere.

The problem with this one that need to flip the phone to do the other side. sharper Image has a better model with lights in the top and the bottom but for a much higher price.

Buy a high alcohol based cleaner and just spray and let it will dry up. You might get much better cleaning this way.
