My local Costco has this hoop for $220. It seems the same as the one on the Spalding website for $599, except with a pad on the pole.

I filled mine with water and the Basegel additive. I believe if you want to drain it you just add some salt and that will liquify the gel. I also used tie downs and straps and it doesn't feel like my hoop is going to budge at all. I bought the straps from hoopanchor.com, you can definitely find your own, but the addition of the collar on the pole that also attaches to the ground anchors really firms up the entire structure.
Thanks for the info! Maybe I'll consider base gel now that I know it's removable.

I did see the hoopanchor product linked earlier in the thread, but it's $54 with shipping for me, and the trampoline anchor kit I've been eyeing on Amazon averages ~$30 (https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B07TCM1CCG/) -- I'm just waiting for it to go back down in price. I think it's a tradeoff between 2 extra anchors vs. the collar and clip system. If hoopanchor were a little cheaper I'd be more inclined since it's more purpose-built.

You can buy anchors like that for $3.50 @ HF [harborfreight.com] (HD is more like $5). Then just use rope, or some straps (sexy ratcheting 4 pk [harborfreight.com] @ HF is $12, along with 4 of those stakes is like $26 OTD (or some cam straps similar to that amazon listing are $10 for 4 [harborfreight.com]). If you cared about coupons you could wait for one of the HF % off under $10 coupons. Or just go buy it all for like $24.

Arguably, you don't need straps that fancy, so you could probably knock that price down a bit, but I wouldn't hesitate to do that rather than buy a package from Amazon

Your kid should stick to NBA 2K because the asphalt game ain't for them. If you want to come out there and defend your kid's honor, I will make you wish you paid more attention in gym class as well.
Oh yeah? Drop the rim to 8 feet and I'll 360 dunk all over your kid!

This isn't a normal sized base. It's not moveable while filled. Also, all the places where bolts connect are metal from both sides, so it won't tear through as easily as most of these portable hoops.

They aren't the same. Walmart has a polycarbonate backboard (turn yellow in a few years) and has a normal adjustment mechanism. The Costco looks like acrylic backboard and has a fully height adjustable gas-shock system. My kids would like that so they can mess with the height with less drama and it's got the padding.

To me it's a no-brainer for the Costco at the sale price. For normal price I might get the Walmart one just cause it's casually used by the kids
My 7-year-old adjusts it after I play with the Costco one. She couldn't do that without the pneumatic piston.

Yes that's an option. I wonder how large the reservoir is on these.
Probably double what I've seen in the normal $179-$249 portable hoops.

While it's debatable whether Michael Jackson was ever banging kids...I think it's Michael Jordan that scored from the free throw line.

Over 20 at my store for 229. Easily moved with two people and fits in small bed Tacoma no problem. Haven't opened it yet since got it last night
It also fits in a minivan (especially if seats fold flat).

Time it takes to assemble? Thanks.
If you have a good drill and socket set, maybe 3 hours? I did it over two nights of watching basketball. (I had to wait to put the backboard on after rolling it outside.)

I have this one from Walmart. The only real differences I can see are that 1. the Costco version has a padded pole, and that 2. the Costco version has a straight (vertical) pole whereas the Walmart has an angled pole. The latter is easier when playing under the hoop, since it moves the base further back, but it's likely not a huge difference.
Not the same--the pneumatic piston with this one makes it so a 6-year-old can raise it by themselves. Plus, the Walmart one is polycarbonate, not acrylic, and will turn yellow then shatter in a few years. The Walmart one is a good price at $179, when it's normally $249. But this one should cost at least $399 (MSRP $599).
