Yes, that's typically how it's done. A free item won't come across with a returnable value if they were smart. I'd be very surprised if they allowed this.

Also, this is why we can't have nice things...people who take advantage of already good deals.
You think they are too dumb to know it goes on? Lol

This is exactly why I took a donor 887 and dropped a 3/8" anvil in it (Dewalt Part Number 608116-00SV). Has tons of torque - enough to remove lugs - and has the speed settings. Probably one of my favorite tools now.
That is actually a great idea. I would have more use from driver than wrench around the house.
I currently always borrow trusted old Makita, would be good to get own Dewalt.
Multispeed is good point. Especially with sheetrock screws.

I specifically avoid VCG because, if nothing else I hate the click-baitey nature of their channel. Project Farm has fantastic side-by-side fair comparisons. AVE if you want hilarious commentary and a peek at the manufacturing logistics of these companies.
VCG hella biased towards Milwaukee I feel

Don't expect rebate. Never worked for me
I received mine for the 899 kit I bought in-store. The key is to appeal the ones they shoot down on first pass and hope you forget. I'm missing 2 because they denied on some holiday promos even though I bought in store. They said "it doesn't work on reduced/discounted items." I said this wasn't discounted. It was a bare tool with the dcb205-2ck bonus for free they had. It was a promo, not a discount. They said they would take a second look and have an answer in 30 days. I told him to put in the notes it was a promo and I paid full price for the bare tool. It wasn't a discounted item like he said.

Like I said, they hope you forget and don't dispute. We shall see though....

The DCF894B is exactly what I'm hoping for in this deal. When did you get that screaming deal? How has that detent pin worked out for you?

The 3/8" impact wrench sounds good, but I figure I'd go one more step up in power without going crazy with the 899.
It works fantastic. Would enjoy the hog ring if had been priced right, but detent pin works well. I picked it up on a Special Buy of the Day HD had on 1/18/21. It was this kit:

Model# DCB2052CKW894B
Internet# 314721053

Paid $219 for it. I woke up that morning at like 6 and it was already sold out, but when I went and favorited it to my lists, the "Add To Cart" button appeared and was able to snag one out of luck. They had a similar kit on sale a year ago: https://slickdeals.net/share/iphone_app/t/13030777

The 899 is a beast. Absolute beast and so much power. It was on sale I think last November for $199. It was the DCF899M1 kit. That one I bought in-store to get the 11% rebate, which they honored.

Great prices when returning battery. Can't wait
Returning battery? Can you can return the battery by it's self for money back? If so how much can you get for it? Thank you

You can easily swap out the anvil. I bought the DCF899HB and found I didn't like the hog ring so I bought the detent pin.

Is this going to be just on the items outlined or all dewalt tool only? Definitely been waiting for their nailers to be on sale, I've got the 21 degree framer and it's awesome.

Never knew they had a battery powered nailer. How does this one compare to using a nailer with air compressor? I have been borrowing one and it's a pain to drag the compressor.

I had the 18 gauge air nailer and bought the battery powered one--what a difference. I will never go back to air. Just not having the air hose tangled around everything, having the compressor kick on, etc. is great.

Awesome! DCF890B is on sale with battery. I'll do the battery return on this guy and 11% HD rebate that's going on again.

This will go nicely with the DCF894B and DCF899B I got for $59 and $97 respectively after selling the batteries, chargers and bags in the kits. The 899 was in-store purchase with 11% off.
What's the 11% rebate deal?

I second this question. I am eyeing the pole saw and pole trimmer head attachment. Both are bare tools. It would be sweet if I can get each with free a battery and return the battery for a great price.
I bought the pole saw\trimmer head combo with battery from Acme back around Christmas. This past weekend was the first warm weather\get the yard ready we've had on a weekend so I put them through their paces and was very impressed with both attachments. The hedge trimmer tore through most of what I gave it. It hung up on some larger stuff, but the saw attachment handled all of that. I wandered the front and back yard for a solid 30-45 minutes cutting stuff and was only down 1 bar on the 4ah battery it came with.

I have the finishing nailer (same model I think) and it is awesome. Very convenient and powerful. I want the brad nailer now. Too bad it's not part of this deal.

What would be dumb is to sell something that is free with purchase and putting a value on the free item so it can be returned. Any major retailer has POS rules in place that prevent the free item from being returned without the original item be returned as well and i'd be hard pressed to find HD allowing this.
