I cant recommend these Brother Laser Printers enough! I have had mine (HL-2280DW) for eight years now and it still runs like a champ.

3rd party toner costs next to nothing and have never had a single issue with it. I swear it is going to outlive me at this rate.

Yeah this is only wired. It's the DW that's WiFi.

I got a couple of these new for $50 or $60 at Best Buy back in summer 2017. They work like champs & still going strong with no issues whatsoever.

From everything I can find, this model appears to be wired only. Are you sure that this works with 2.4 GHz?

Some things have gone way up since the pandemic started. These printers were always on sale under $50.
You are not kidding. I picked up several of these and the wireless version over the years for no more than $70.

A lot of ROUTERS have USB wireless addon for printers or hard drives... Possible to add to your home network.

Love my mfc-2700dw series, cheap ink. Got both from a slickdeal 5yrs ago.

Only thing that bothers me with is when in sleep mode, sometimes it doesn't want to wake up and need to be restarted. Plus i wish it has bluetooth or airprint support. Other than that, its a tank. It survived several surges and blackouts in my area last year.

PS TN-660 high yield toner (2,600 pages) was 2 for $15. Now its 2 for $18. Not bad for 5yrs.

Great laser printer. Too bad it uses TN-660 cartridges instead of TN-450 like my other brother laser printer.

The new scam is to build printers with separate drum and ink toner - it appears that this unit is of that type. The toner is relatively cheap, but you will need to buy a new drum after about 5 toner cartridges (according to Amazon Q/A).

A new drum is $90. Brother-Genuine-DR630
The third party drums on our Brother 2540DW I think are $15.
Exzellent little bw 3in1.
We use it in print intensive business and have put reams and reams through it for years. Third party toner and the rare drum are cheaper than any other brand I am familiar with.

Any reference you can share how can I set up my raspberry pi server?
Try this for a basic CUPs setup:

I believe I used the Brother HL-2140 Foomatic/hpijs-pcl5e driver and that seems to work well. If you want Airprint support there are a few extra steps, and you can google "cups raspberry pi airprint" to find out how to add and configure the needed packages.

Thanks for the post. I'll have to mention this to my family. I feel like ours looks similar, but might be HP or some other brand.

I remember seeing a number of Brother posts and comments years ago on SD... People always seemed to praise the reliability of the brand, and how easy it is to get cheap 3rd party refills. I might've read that in recent years, like other manufacturers, they're trying to prevent that more.

I guess I probably won't jump on this deal, since if anything we probably would upgrade for something with a scanner and wifi capabilities. Appreciate seeing the deal though. I'll have to set up a deal alert

Wait for a better deal on refurbished AIO around $100-130. They come with networking so it is easier to share. You will want one at home.

Have you bought a new drum unit yet? I didn't know we had to buy that in addition to toners.

I would do that. I think we paid about 100 for our 2540 3-1. It was new with a sheet feeder which is good for copy and scan. Does everything except double sided scan, which is the one feature I'd want as well next time.

Keep in mind that this printer will only recognize a 2.4 GHz network. You'll have to have a dual-band router and make a separate 2.4 GHz network just for printing if you want 5 GHz normally.
Literally had this issue today with a different Brother printer. Insanely frustrating for a "wifi enabled device" to not run on a popular frequency.

You'll go through a lot of toner before that happens. Maybe 10? Third party drum kit is cheap and easy to replace on a 2540.
