They tried and it kinda was since it was based off the standard but you know what probably killed this from an Apple leadership perspective? The bands like the sport loop and new Solo / Braided Loops that can't lay flat on a Qi charger. It's dumb, but I'm guessing it's from a product consistency standpoint knowing how obsessive they are over experience lol. Also this is probably why they ended up doing this magsafe duo thing instead of that AirPower mat they announced then cancelled

It's more about the placement consistency of non-Magsafe chargers. I mean 2 years ago 7.5W Qi charging was actually pretty decent. And you can get a MagSafe puck on its own for like 35 bucks. But this product is specifically more geared for somebody that wants a specific easy user experience when traveling with their iPhone and Apple Watch. It's definitely a rip-off, but to some a sale on this may be worth it for a really nice user experience

Have both solo loop and braided loop. I just flip it inside out and the watch can lay flat on the charger, if that makes sense.

Totally makes sense to everybody that isn't an Apple leader haha. Sometimes they're overly obsessive about perfection and that just makes everything more of a headache for us consumers of their stuff lol

Damn, $100 for 15W wireless charging, what a racket. They conveniently add an NFC chip to gatekeep other brands from being able to make 15W chargers for cheaper. This reeks of what they did for the lightning cable when it first came out. Classic Apple.
