If you end up receiving a 1099 tax form, you'd presumably need to deduct taxes that from the total:

From your link: Credit card signup bonuses never get a Form 1099. The reason being that there's always a minimum spend requirement, and the bonus is considered to be offsetting the purchase.

Thank you all that confirmed branch waiver of first year. Even the rep there was surprised. Challenged me right from the start thinking I got my info from some 3rd rate website. I hadn't actually looked I just stated it was info from CHASE. He looked it up and apologized immediately. Inside I was like MY SD COMMUNITY NEVER LETS ME DOWN! Another WIN from you guys. Thanks a bunch!

You need to wait 13 months from getting your Preferred to change to the Reserve.

Is your last sentence implying you would apply for a Reserve in two years after getting the Preferred now? That's not possible. You can only have one Sapphire card at any time.

You could product change from the Preferred to Reserve after 13 months.
No, sorry, I meant going from one to the other but keeping your initial Sapphire account to capitalize off the additional gains.

I was told by 3 different phone reps that I am NOT allowed to upgrade a Preferred card to Reserve within the first year of getting the card.
So that means if I want to go back to Reserve within the year, I'll have to downgrade or cancel the Preferred card, and re-apply for a Reserve card.
Anyone else had a different experience? i.e. was able to upgrade Preferred to Reserve within first year?
thanks
I think it has to do with regulations when moving to CCs with higher annual fees.

Opened Chase Sapphire Preferred card at Chase Bank Branch yesterday. The whole process took about 15 mins. Got instantly approved with a $15500 credit line. $95 fee waived for first year. It (fee waiver) is in the promo they see when they check a box, the customer is at the bank 'Yes' or 'No'.

I didn't currently own a sapphire card and had bonus about 50 months ago from both Preferred and Reserved. I was good with 5/24 rules and my credit score is 834, this reduced the credit score to 830 (Equifax).

The bank associate was able to expedite the card delivery by calling the customer service. I provided a photocopy of my passport and driver's license.

Yes, almost immediately upon approval.

My application was approved 3/30. I was charged the $95 fee on 4/1.

Does it show up in your recent transaction?

Correct- Chases reading of the CARD act is they can't switch you to anything with a higher AF in the first year of the account being open.

Anyone have experience in paying tuition to redeem bonus cashback? Thinking of paying daughters tuition with this card but not sure if it's considered a "fee"

Yes, if your account is set up. (Don't remember if the account has to be activated in order to view it.)

If I remember correctly, the $95 membership fee doesn't count toward the minimum spend limit - so be sure to subtract it from your total if you plan on cutting it close. I usually overspend a couple of hundred dollars, just to make sure I didn't make a careless mistake.

I've paid my son's private school (elementary and middle school) tuition fees and had it counted toward the spend limit by Chase. I've also had my son's school lunch account credited toward the spend limit.
