Great price. Bought one from dwr last year. If you are looking for the classic look, you will need to purchase the black MCL leather from dwr. If you're also over 6ft tall, you need the tall version. This is the full grain leather, standard height
It's an iconic chair that is obscenely expensive for what it is. I bought mine lightly used off craigslist for 2250. I recommend shopping around first.

I still feel regret for spending that much lol.

Would a massage chair be better than this?
Well..IF you can afford a $4.5K TV you can afford a separate masseuse.
See if "Orchids of Asia Day Spa & Massage" makes out-calls...

Many replicas that "feel great" will quickly not feel great, and peel. There's a lot of leather on a chair like this, and for under 1,000 you're getting plastic coated garbage (which will appear like garbage in a couple years).

Look at nice leather boots - 500. Now try making a whole chair out of that amount of leather.

That said I'm sure you could make an essentially perfect replica for about 2-2.5k so you are paying a TON for the logo, but that's the same reason people buy "the real thing" for all sorts of things.

If the original is too much $$$ I recommend trying to find one used, or just finding a nice chair that isn't an eames knockoff. There's nothing more pathetic than a peeling knockoff eames IMO. These aren't replica watches here, and while you're paying for name you aren't ONLY paying for name. People that don't care about eames chairs won't care it's an eames. People that do care about eames chairs will notice it's fake. Why bother in my mind, when you can get nice alternatives that aren't knockoffs without quite as much brand tax?

If I'm 6'2 and wear tall shirts, i should skip this right?
I am also 6'2 with tall torso and ended up buying the tall version of the chair from DWR in Santa Monica. While leaning back on the normal model my head would rest almost on top of the head rest pad while with the tall version my head is fully cushioned in the center of the pad.

Still floored to see these being offered from Costco. I don't think i saw anyone mention that these come with a 12 year warranty from HM.

Ok, I'll ask. What does this chair do that justifies buying it at a price of $4,500 that a chair that cost less than $200 would do? I'm genuinely curious.

I have never seen Herman Miller at Costco. Do you guys think this will go fast?
No they don't. They don't have wheels and send moving technology.
LOL. Just kidding.

Does anyone know how the 90 day returns policy works for this? Does it have to be unboxed or can we try it at home and decide whether it's worth the price? If we need to return it, do we just take it back to the store opened up?
If you buy it online/have furniture shipped via Costco.com they will pick it up free of charge if you decide you want to return it within the official return window.

After 90 days although you're officially out of the return window this is of course Costco, they will probably accept your return no matter what if you're in good standing.

A 200 dollar chair will be made out of fake leather or arguably worse "genuine" leather and start to flake/peel/wear poorly within a year or two. It also won't look very good. 500-1,000 dollar eames chairs also fall in this category.

For 2,000 or so I bet you could make something about as high quality as an eames chair, but it would still not be an eames. Eames chairs are iconic, once you've seen it you'll notice them everywhere where high end furnishings are.

It's really more of art than functional status of a chair. I've sat in plenty of 500-1000 dollar chairs that are comfier, but none looked quite as nice as an eames. Regardless if you have to ask whether it's worth it, it probably isn't, for you. But we all have different preferences/hobbies/tastes. I know some people spend big on their truck, ATVs, hunting/guns etc. some people spend big on furniture/house. Takes all kinds in this world.

because some people have incomes to pay for it. They are cool looking and psychologists with glasses and pipes reading books or seeing patients on them made them popular. This is more of a statement piece, nice furniture...I would feel guilt buying one.
.
I just got my application approved from Rent-a-Center for a set of preowned white plastic patio table and 3 1/2 chairs. 48 payments and they're mine.

I have to admit, Herman Miller chairs are definitely comfortable. My old job replaced everyone's chair one day and it was Herman Miller, best office chair I've ever sat in. For fun, I looked up the price and it was about $750/chair and that office had about 250 people working there. Which surprised the heck out of me because the company is usually very cheap. Like, one ply toilet paper cheap. I'm not longer at that job and I miss the chair.

Funny story... a local Salvation Army Thrift Shop is one of my favorite spots to check out every week or two. I planned to meet my two sons and their mom there one weekend for the handoff. A guy walks in carrying a cool looking ottoman and asks "can I donate this here?" just as my son walks up. The store manager says yes, so I ask if I can buy it? He says sure, how about $10? I say sold and tell my son to sit on it as I run out the door after the guy. I ask if he has the chair that goes with it? It was in the back of his Lexus SUV... it broke the night before and is on it's way to the dump! I told him I would take it off his hands and he was happy to let me do so.

Turns out it was a mid 60's version of this iconic chair. I have the ottoman in our living room. I have quotes for $500-$1000 to repair the chair someday. I am happy to enjoy the ottoman as a $10 functional conversation piece in my living room until the day I can justify spending the money to restore the rest of this beautiful piece of furniture.

If you can afford one, their style and comfort has stood the test of time and will continue to do so.
You do know that original from 60-70s could go in 5 digits price rage, don't you?

Because its an Eames chair. Its an iconic chair thats part of American industrial design history that appeals to designers, architects and rich people alike.

If you dont know who Ray and Charles Eames are, heres a video. https://youtu.be/sRElKUXH4VU

I know there's a lot of jokes in this thread but I'm legit tempted. May look into the tall version as suggested however
