If you remove any paid lines within the first year, the free line loses the promo and becomes paid.

TMO doesn't want people doing what you're wanting to do.

To accomplish it, you would need to:

1. Add free line.
2. Wait a year + one day.
3. Port out paid line to another carrier.
4. Keep paid line active on another carrier for 90 days (to preserve number).
5. Port old number back in on free line.

This whole process has taken you 1.25 years.
My port-in was initiated during T439 promo period and completed today outside of the promo period. Without the port in (with only the added line and traded-in) I was on a bad promo. Once the port-in completed today, the system auto updated to T439 promo in my account --> promotions. Therefore, I don't think it was a requirement the port-ins must be completed by 3/24 EOB, just as long as they are initiated.
YES, you can use this sim in your iPad. I pay for 2 lines and have 3 free lines on promotion (5 lines total)
I have 2 of my free lines in a iPad and a Samsung S4 tablet, with UNLIMITED data.
You have to call them and tell them you want to use the line (promo line) in a tablet but don't want to lose the promotion and you don't want to open a new line for this.
What they did for me, was block the phone service on the line and kept the messaging and data. That way I am able to use it in my tablet.
Every summer my daughter comes and visit from Germany. I take one of the sim card out of my tablet and put it in her phone..
I call T-Mobile and have them unblock the phone service. That way, my daughter has a phone while she is here in country.
When she leaves I call them back and get it blocked again. I have been doing this for close to 5 years. So I know for a fact it works.
Tomorrow I will be calling to try and get another free line.. (Fingers Crossed)
Hope this helps

my free line is already unlimited everything.. So I get unlimited data on my tablet.. as long as they don't turn it into a tablet line it should work..
Mine is working on my ipad pro 2020 without turning off the voice service but it is really slow, did you do bandwidth test and see how fast it is?

If I add the free line, could I use it for my Apple Watch or does it need to be a voice line?

I don't even know why I bother looking at the SOC list anymore since I know my 6SCFMPRM account isn't going to be eligible. Again. Damn it T-Mobile, show me some love.
Feel you! Got the same SOC as yours. I should have stayed with the $80 plan. Frown

I don't get the add a line thing, and I admittedly out of the loop on cell phone plans, but what's the draw on these? How many lines can you really use? With the exception of small business and such...seems that most customers would reach saturation point really quickly, so I don't understand why these deals are basically all that exist as promos from cell providers these days. You can't cancel a line and then re-add it, right? What's the deal?

Haha. Yeah it sucks. Fortunately I don't need the extra line but I still think it's crazy they won't give it to us. I think this is the third or fourth we've missed out on. Oh well.

It is not always the case that it is used by one family. You can combine with others and average your cost. If you have a 4-line plan, it costs $140 based on current Magenta pricing. If you have a single 8-line account, over time with such hookup discounts and free lines, you will average around $20/line or less depending on how many such free lines you get.

Holy cow, 10SCFM4 is listed. Hasn't been an option in a couple of years I believe. Definitely not at all last year. Came here expecting more disappointment.

Of course! I am not that lucky and glad to average around $18/line at this time. Will make use of such promos to bring others in and reduce overall cost.

So I got a line added for "free" in a November/December promo in 2020. The taxes and fees for that line total $3.69 ($3.18 for T-mobile fees and charges + $0.51 government taxes and fees).

So really the line total for the year would be $44.28. There definitely is a cost associated with doing this. I'm debating whether to do this deal and pay that cost each month if I'm not utilizing it. My kids are 4 and 2 and anther one the way. We have no use or plans in the foreseeable future with free line we have now so I'm thinking may need to pass. Yes, T-mobile may stop doing this in the future and locking in a "free" line now would be good. But yeah.... guess take my chances not getting another now.
I'm in MD and my monthly tax alone is close to $9/line. Not too long into future, you may need the lines to put into tablets to keep kiddos from fighting when you travel. $44/year is a cost of 2 months of service, so you may want to think in terms of break even point.
