If you remove any paid lines within the first year, the free line loses the promo and becomes paid.

TMO doesn't want people doing what you're wanting to do.

To accomplish it, you would need to:

1. Add free line.
2. Wait a year + one day.
3. Port out paid line to another carrier.
4. Keep paid line active on another carrier for 90 days (to preserve number).
5. Port old number back in on free line.

This whole process has taken you 1.25 years.
My port-in was initiated during T439 promo period and completed today outside of the promo period. Without the port in (with only the added line and traded-in) I was on a bad promo. Once the port-in completed today, the system auto updated to T439 promo in my account --> promotions. Therefore, I don't think it was a requirement the port-ins must be completed by 3/24 EOB, just as long as they are initiated.
YES, you can use this sim in your iPad. I pay for 2 lines and have 3 free lines on promotion (5 lines total)
I have 2 of my free lines in a iPad and a Samsung S4 tablet, with UNLIMITED data.
You have to call them and tell them you want to use the line (promo line) in a tablet but don't want to lose the promotion and you don't want to open a new line for this.
What they did for me, was block the phone service on the line and kept the messaging and data. That way I am able to use it in my tablet.
Every summer my daughter comes and visit from Germany. I take one of the sim card out of my tablet and put it in her phone..
I call T-Mobile and have them unblock the phone service. That way, my daughter has a phone while she is here in country.
When she leaves I call them back and get it blocked again. I have been doing this for close to 5 years. So I know for a fact it works.
Tomorrow I will be calling to try and get another free line.. (Fingers Crossed)
Hope this helps

If you switch to a Magenta plan for 5 lines you end up paying $160 but taxes and fees included. Unlimited data. Compare the rest of the features, Netflix etc. and whatever you may need or want. And you can add a free line tomorrow. Heck, if you switch tonight you may be able to score a free line and then tomorrow another. But it all depends on your needs for the features etc. Note that the free line(s) would go on top of your existing 5, you cannot replace a paid line with a free one.

the watch line would stay the same but you won't pay taxes on it any longer in case you do now (because you would be on a taxes and fees included plan).
See below cause I have the same question.

What exactly are people using these "free" lines for? If you have several "free" lines which you are not using for anything and you're paying tax on those lines then its really not a good deal.
Wondering the same. CalmSoda260, can the free lines be used on things like tablets or smart watches?

yes. You can self activate a new line online and pay for the SIM. You also do this at Costco. Via Chat or in store you have to pay $10 SIM and likely the support fee, which you can sometimes get waived.

No, these are voice lines only. = Smart phone lines. They inherit the data levels of the master account. If you have a One or Magenta plan then the new voice line will also have the same data level. They are smartphone lines, not Mobile Internet (Hotspot), Watches, or Tablets, and cannot be switched (normally). Apparently some folks have been able to "morph" these lines into "de facto" tablet lines by getting CSR to tweak the settings, but by default no. That is something I will try at some point.

Standard behavior for a voice SIM in a tablet is that it will suffocate itself into 3G speeds at best. So, you may keep unlimited data, but it's it's not going to be fast.

Has anyone ever been able to get a 20% hookup if you are an existing customer? I've been a customer since 2016 and from past promos this hookup discount seems to be reserved for new customers only. Feels like us old loyal customers who pay our bills on time don't get anything in return besides these free line promos. 20% off my bill for life would be grand.

Well, I am with you on the hookup and would love that too. But, to be fair, we cannot really claim we got nothing. There have been plenty of promos. Sure, Hookup would be the icing on the cake, and I still believe in miracles.... one day ... but grab the free line tomorrow as a starter. ;-)

Great thanks OP !
I see that I have 11 lines in my family (5 are free from various promos) so I can still add the last i.e. 12th line (T-Mo One plan)!
What could be better than adding the last line as the free line in the family...? ;-)
