If you remove any paid lines within the first year, the free line loses the promo and becomes paid.

TMO doesn't want people doing what you're wanting to do.

To accomplish it, you would need to:

1. Add free line.
2. Wait a year + one day.
3. Port out paid line to another carrier.
4. Keep paid line active on another carrier for 90 days (to preserve number).
5. Port old number back in on free line.

This whole process has taken you 1.25 years.
My port-in was initiated during T439 promo period and completed today outside of the promo period. Without the port in (with only the added line and traded-in) I was on a bad promo. Once the port-in completed today, the system auto updated to T439 promo in my account --> promotions. Therefore, I don't think it was a requirement the port-ins must be completed by 3/24 EOB, just as long as they are initiated.
YES, you can use this sim in your iPad. I pay for 2 lines and have 3 free lines on promotion (5 lines total)
I have 2 of my free lines in a iPad and a Samsung S4 tablet, with UNLIMITED data.
You have to call them and tell them you want to use the line (promo line) in a tablet but don't want to lose the promotion and you don't want to open a new line for this.
What they did for me, was block the phone service on the line and kept the messaging and data. That way I am able to use it in my tablet.
Every summer my daughter comes and visit from Germany. I take one of the sim card out of my tablet and put it in her phone..
I call T-Mobile and have them unblock the phone service. That way, my daughter has a phone while she is here in country.
When she leaves I call them back and get it blocked again. I have been doing this for close to 5 years. So I know for a fact it works.
Tomorrow I will be calling to try and get another free line.. (Fingers Crossed)
Hope this helps

I only see Get up to $415 off iPhone 12 on the website. Where are you seeing $830?

Don't forget you still have to pay taxes and surcharges on "free line." Only tax you don't pay on free line is sales tax because there wouldn't be sales tax on $0. And those taxes and surcharges add to $10 to $15 per month in some localities.

Wow this sounds like a YMMV situation. Just depends if you are lucky enough to get a rep to follow through, but I have seen on forums ppl say that the overseas reps tend to be more flexible. It doesn't hurt to try.... and keep trying lol.

How did you approach asking them for the hookup discount btw?
i lost 2 free lines on us promo after plan change. i asked rep if theres any way to get it added back knowing that it was not possible. then i went and kidding around that i would take hookup instead if adding free 2 lines on us wasnt possible. then rep went and asked his super to add hookup for me. apparently, there are 2 different hookup code in the system that one is for new account and one for existing account.

I would recommend getting the line, in 9 months port one of your paid lines to google or elsewhere and then after 3 months call T-Mobile to port your number over to your free line.
It's one year after taking this free line.then out for 90 days and back. and to boot you would have to skip any free line offers during that 15 months. . .that's the hook

There is a promotion for "Get an iPhone 12 on us". You need to add a line, port in a number and trade in a device.

Well, don't kill the messenger. Let's instead hope it's true. I talked to a CSR about 1-2 weeks ago as I was ordering a phone, and by chance he mentioned my plan (FRLTULF2) can take up to 12 lines. I was a bit surprised to hear that but did not care as I did an EIP on an existing line. Curious now with the promos I chatted up another CSR earlier today, and he confirmed the plan can take up to 12 lines. Maybe one of you guys can call / chat and confirm as well? Maybe things changed in their system?

I have been on this plan probably at least 3-4 years after 1-2 years on a Simple Choice before. T-Mobile One. Missed the hookup. Lost 2 free lines when I switched from SC to One or made some other mistake. Wish I would have kept that $5 5GB tablet line or whatever that was back in the days. You gain some you lose some...

We'll see what happens when I try to activate the 9th line online tomorrow ... I hope it's not going to screw things up. Straightening things up with executive escalations is not an instant event. I had a number port in issue once that messed up the account and don't want an episode like that ever again.

Note: There seem to be
  • FRLTULF2
  • FRLTULFM2
  • FRLTULFM9

Maybe that's were the differences lie?
I'm on the frltulf2 as well, 7 lines with 1 wearable. Would a switch to Tiulfm9 affect autopay discounts anything if at all? Aren't autopsy discounts capped at 8 total lines+devices? If I add another line I'm thinking my bill is actually going to increase by $5 since I might lose autopay discount on the watch.

Don't know. The new promo says free after bill credits so it should include the full line, no? You don't have to change your plan for this promo at all. You can stay on frltulf2.

Yeah I'll stay for now and then maybe in a month try to get it changed in anticipation for whenever the next free line is. I'll see if anyone with 9+ lines and devices can enlighten how autopay discount gets affected with that many lines, thanks

To be clear, we are only counting voice lines. The wearables and tablets are all in. Their own category. If you have 7 voice lines and 1 wearable you have 7 "lines".

I hope it's true! I'm on the same plan with 7 voice lines, I don't have to worry about it this time but I would love not having to change plans next time a free line rolls out. Let us know!

You don't get Autopay for Lines 9-12, although it does not matter for Free Lines since it will discount the whole amount. I advise you to read up some of the previous threads from last year, and see how people who went from 8 to 9 Lines had their bill go down significantly.

But for autopay discount I believe it is capped at $40 total, so whatever mix of wearables, tablets, and lines brings you to 40 after that you won't receive that extra $5 discount. But if it's a free line you're adding after maybe it doesn't matter then
