If you remove any paid lines within the first year, the free line loses the promo and becomes paid.

TMO doesn't want people doing what you're wanting to do.

To accomplish it, you would need to:

1. Add free line.
2. Wait a year + one day.
3. Port out paid line to another carrier.
4. Keep paid line active on another carrier for 90 days (to preserve number).
5. Port old number back in on free line.

This whole process has taken you 1.25 years.
My port-in was initiated during T439 promo period and completed today outside of the promo period. Without the port in (with only the added line and traded-in) I was on a bad promo. Once the port-in completed today, the system auto updated to T439 promo in my account --> promotions. Therefore, I don't think it was a requirement the port-ins must be completed by 3/24 EOB, just as long as they are initiated.
YES, you can use this sim in your iPad. I pay for 2 lines and have 3 free lines on promotion (5 lines total)
I have 2 of my free lines in a iPad and a Samsung S4 tablet, with UNLIMITED data.
You have to call them and tell them you want to use the line (promo line) in a tablet but don't want to lose the promotion and you don't want to open a new line for this.
What they did for me, was block the phone service on the line and kept the messaging and data. That way I am able to use it in my tablet.
Every summer my daughter comes and visit from Germany. I take one of the sim card out of my tablet and put it in her phone..
I call T-Mobile and have them unblock the phone service. That way, my daughter has a phone while she is here in country.
When she leaves I call them back and get it blocked again. I have been doing this for close to 5 years. So I know for a fact it works.
Tomorrow I will be calling to try and get another free line.. (Fingers Crossed)
Hope this helps

You don't get Autopay for Lines 9-12, although it does not matter for Free Lines since it will discount the whole amount. I advise you to read up some of the previous threads from last year, and see how people who went from 8 to 9 Lines had their bill go down significantly.
Would you know if their system then prioritizes autopay discounts for lines over wearables, tablets, etc, or are they applied by the order in which each line or device was added to the account?

Hi, Since you moved from Magenta 1.0 to Magenta 2.0, can you pls check something?

Under "Manage Data and Add-ons" for your Magenta 2.0 plan, do you still have the options to choose Netflix HD for $5.00/mo and Netflix UHD for $9.00/mo ?
These options are selectable/deletable on a per month basis on 1.0. Some months, I binge on Netflix and would pay the $9.00 for UHD quality just for that month, and then revert back to the free Netflix SD included free on Magenta 1.0

Also, since Magenta 2.0 increases the Hotspot to 5GB, is there any pay option that you can see in Magenta 2.0 "manage Data and Add-ons" to choose more Hotspot data?
In the case of Magenta 1.0 which includes the 3GB hotspot per line, there is an option to pay 10GB Hotspot for $10.00/mo. Again, like the 10GB hotspot option is selectable/deletable on a per month basis.

Thanks!

The consensus is that there's are no downsides to upgrading. I updated 11 days ago via T-Force on Twitter and everything (including discounts and free lines) moved over painlessly as expected. In addition to the hotspot change, you also get 100GB of "priority" data (compared to 50GB with Magenta 1.0) before possibly being throttled if on a congested tower.

Cannot have closed a line in the last 30, the 90 day is for porting in. Can't have been a number on tmo network in last 90 days to qualify for port in promos
T-Force accidentally opened a line when I was purchasing an iPhone in January, but cancelled the line. Since it's been over 30 days, am I eligible for the free line? Thx for posting the info on Reddit!

On the phone trying to get the free AAL (closest store is 3 hours round trip) and the credit card validation keeps failing. 3 different cards now and all the same. Any idea why this happens with me and T-Mobile? It has happened before.

Don't forget you still have to pay taxes and surcharges on "free line." Only tax you don't pay on free line is sales tax because there wouldn't be sales tax on $0. And those taxes and surcharges add to $10 to $15 per month in some localities.
Only if you pay taxes on your existing plan. On Magenta or a plan that already includes taxes, it's truly free. I got 4 free lines last year, and pay nothing for them, not even taxes.

If you have a plan like Essentials where you pay taxes, then yes, this free line will cost you taxes each month.

Yep, I had the same thing happen to me last September, I explained to the rep that the line was cancelled under Non-Use

That's what I thought and now hearing different thing via chat, i.e. max lines I can have is 12... Please update, how it goes adding 9th line. I am on TMO FRLTULF2 and currently have 8 lines...

Also, any deals at Costco for BYOD?

Update: I just checked with TM on Twitter and they said I am I'm on TM One plan can have 12 lines and next question she asked without me telling anything, is are we adding a free line today to your account?

Quote from CalmSoda260 :
Well, don't kill the messenger. Let's instead hope it's true. I talked to a CSR about 1-2 weeks ago as I was ordering a phone, and by chance he mentioned my plan (FRLTULF2) can take up to 12 lines. I was a bit surprised to hear that but did not care as I did an EIP on an existing line. Curious now with the promos I chatted up another CSR earlier today, and he confirmed the plan can take up to 12 lines. Maybe one of you guys can call / chat and confirm as well? Maybe things changed in their system?

I have been on this plan probably at least 3-4 years after 1-2 years on a Simple Choice before. T-Mobile One. Missed the hookup. Lost 2 free lines when I switched from SC to One or made some other mistake. Wish I would have kept that $5 5GB tablet line or whatever that was back in the days. You gain some you lose some...

We'll see what happens when I try to activate the 9th line online tomorrow ... I hope it's not going to screw things up. Straightening things up with executive escalations is not an instant event. I had a number port in issue once that messed up the account and don't want an episode like that ever again.

Note: There seem to be
  • FRLTULF2
  • FRLTULFM2
  • FRLTULFM9

Maybe that's were the differences lie?

Just added the line and the only delay was because I wanted to use a new SIM card I purchased from Amazon. They waived the activation fee and my free line (my #9 line) is active.

Is it worth it to get one of the "free" phones with the 24 month EIP, for an older family member to use on the new line?

Thank you OP for sharing this deal! I called TMO this morning (800-937-8997) and spoke to an agent that I'm pretty sure was non-USA based. I already had the 20% HOOKUP on my 4-line T-MOBILE ONE plan.

The agent was not aware of the free line deal but quickly found the promotion and applied it to my account! I did have to pay $10 for the SIM w/overnight shipping, which is still less than the $30 the agent originally quoted (I tried to get it for free).

Received an email order confirmation with the following:

T-MOBILE ONE1
BYOD 3in1 SIM Card1
T-MOBILE ONE1
ASSISTED SUPPORT1
TMOBILE ONE1

The online portal states it can take up to 48 hours for new orders to appear as it does not show the order I just placed.

I triple checked with the agent that no other changes would be made to my account other than a free line of service, and received confirmation that this is the case! Smilie

edit:I did inquire about a free iPhone SE with new line of service but that was not available. Agent only showed 50% off iPhone SE.

You need to know your SOC (rate plan code). It would be easier if you called CS and clarified it.

You get one free line per promo period. But, this promo came thrice last year.
At least 4 times last year. 😁 I have 2020 LineOnUs1, 2, 3, and 4 promos from last year.

I have had this happen multiple times before essentially there is a 14 day grace to cancel and should still be eligible for free line. Having said that do it via social media so they are on the hook as it is in writing and spell it out.
