If you remove any paid lines within the first year, the free line loses the promo and becomes paid.

TMO doesn't want people doing what you're wanting to do.

To accomplish it, you would need to:

1. Add free line.
2. Wait a year + one day.
3. Port out paid line to another carrier.
4. Keep paid line active on another carrier for 90 days (to preserve number).
5. Port old number back in on free line.

This whole process has taken you 1.25 years.
My port-in was initiated during T439 promo period and completed today outside of the promo period. Without the port in (with only the added line and traded-in) I was on a bad promo. Once the port-in completed today, the system auto updated to T439 promo in my account --> promotions. Therefore, I don't think it was a requirement the port-ins must be completed by 3/24 EOB, just as long as they are initiated.
YES, you can use this sim in your iPad. I pay for 2 lines and have 3 free lines on promotion (5 lines total)
I have 2 of my free lines in a iPad and a Samsung S4 tablet, with UNLIMITED data.
You have to call them and tell them you want to use the line (promo line) in a tablet but don't want to lose the promotion and you don't want to open a new line for this.
What they did for me, was block the phone service on the line and kept the messaging and data. That way I am able to use it in my tablet.
Every summer my daughter comes and visit from Germany. I take one of the sim card out of my tablet and put it in her phone..
I call T-Mobile and have them unblock the phone service. That way, my daughter has a phone while she is here in country.
When she leaves I call them back and get it blocked again. I have been doing this for close to 5 years. So I know for a fact it works.
Tomorrow I will be calling to try and get another free line.. (Fingers Crossed)
Hope this helps

I think you just don't know what the heck you're doing if you think T-Mobile is far worse.
Honestly I could give a shit about the billing. The coverage for T-Mobile is just crap. I thought that the hundred bucks a month less that I'm paying for T-Mobile would be worth the potential downside to service coverage (I mean honestly how bad could it be?). I was wrong... Sometimes you get what you pay for.

Oh and since it matters I left Verizon and I live in San Diego. And I have 12 lines on my account all for my business.

can I use this SIM on ipad once it is activated on phone? or TMO will disable it after while.
On my 12.9 iPad it throttle the data to .5 gb. They said you need a tablet plan for full speed on that device.

It wouldn't be worth my time to get into it. I just don't want to be associated with TMobile due to how terrible they are with billing. They were great on the past, but things have clearly changed.
go try at&t. You might change your mind 😄

It's as good as any other coverage here in NYC plus I'm paying much less. There's a reason why T-Mobile is gaining up on Verizon.

Why would you take a free line if you don't plan on using it for an extended amount of time? I guess don't take a free line of you don't want to stay with the company offering it.
The guy I responded to said they weren't on a contract for 15years. He can't get the free line while staying off contracts. Context helps.

Yeah I can tell you that in the other side of the country it's not the same. Honestly I think it's because the West Coast was an early adopter of T-Mobile's crap and ther are just significantly more users on this Coast than yours. Maybe I'm wrong all I know is that my dropped calls and missed calls and failed texts and all sorts of other crap that I never had on Verizon in 10 years has quadrupled in the last 18 months on T-Mobile.

ROFL. During COVID everyone is cancelling their T-mobile lines or like me, reducing their plans to voice and text + 2GB data for $15 per line per month.
Also, as I found out, the "unlimited" data is not really unlimited when using device as a HOTSPOT - they cap it at 10GB even on $120 per month plan (2 lines). When called to see what happened (slow throughput), they insultingly offered $10 off for just one month (so $110 total). I lowered my service to prepaid $30 per month for two lines next day!
IF you don't have Internet at home, you can get T-Mobile's $60 per month unlimited & uncapped internet at 4G speed and use it with any device.
They do restrict it to your local area/address. Verizon has 200Mbit FiOS service for new customers for $40, which is unbeatable (super-low latency for gaming), so the T-Mobile "ISP" box cannot compete with that on price nor throughput.
I also have unlimited internet for $10 per month in my car for Netflix, Youtube, Spotify and live maps from Tesla and that's a really good deal (at&t is their network).

I live in San Diego too and I have not experienced this. Granted I'm not a heavy phone user but we have multiple lines and no complaints.

So if I have a third line free from a promotion in 2020 (IE, I have three total lines - two paid for and one free), would I be eligible under this promotion to add a fourth line (making two paid for and one free)?
Yes, if your plan qualifies.

I had called tmobile multiple times about this (bc not every rep you speak to knows what they are talking about) ; however, the conclusion was this is not possible.

If I insert my voice plan sim into my tablet, the data speed is slower than the dial-up days.

They explained the only option was to purchase a data-only plan...

Did they need any info on your tablet? Because each time I was told it would have to be converted into an e-sim as well...

Thks
You are correct. It throttle to .5gb on the iPad pro. Some older tablets work at full speed but my pro does not and after extensive research it is what it is. There is a large thread on the tmo forums about it.

If you plan on doing this, you must keep the 2 paid lines as a requirement after the one year and keep the new free line and cancel one of the older line.
huh? this isn't making any sort of grammatical sense. not knocking you, but i just dont' understand what you're saying.....

are you saying that after a year, you can drop one of the paid lines and still keep the free lines?
