If you remove any paid lines within the first year, the free line loses the promo and becomes paid.

TMO doesn't want people doing what you're wanting to do.

To accomplish it, you would need to:

1. Add free line.
2. Wait a year + one day.
3. Port out paid line to another carrier.
4. Keep paid line active on another carrier for 90 days (to preserve number).
5. Port old number back in on free line.

This whole process has taken you 1.25 years.
My port-in was initiated during T439 promo period and completed today outside of the promo period. Without the port in (with only the added line and traded-in) I was on a bad promo. Once the port-in completed today, the system auto updated to T439 promo in my account --> promotions. Therefore, I don't think it was a requirement the port-ins must be completed by 3/24 EOB, just as long as they are initiated.
YES, you can use this sim in your iPad. I pay for 2 lines and have 3 free lines on promotion (5 lines total)
I have 2 of my free lines in a iPad and a Samsung S4 tablet, with UNLIMITED data.
You have to call them and tell them you want to use the line (promo line) in a tablet but don't want to lose the promotion and you don't want to open a new line for this.
What they did for me, was block the phone service on the line and kept the messaging and data. That way I am able to use it in my tablet.
Every summer my daughter comes and visit from Germany. I take one of the sim card out of my tablet and put it in her phone..
I call T-Mobile and have them unblock the phone service. That way, my daughter has a phone while she is here in country.
When she leaves I call them back and get it blocked again. I have been doing this for close to 5 years. So I know for a fact it works.
Tomorrow I will be calling to try and get another free line.. (Fingers Crossed)
Hope this helps

No, I did not yet. But that's how the prior free lines worked and I did that twice before. Just checkout, if your SOC is eligible you ill be fine and it will adjust.
I feel relatively comfortable "adding a person" via my online Tmo account. When it comes to branch in the tree of BYOD vs. Buy a phone, I am hesitant on what to do.

Even though the iPhone SE promo still reads 50% off, is that what you would do / have done?

Or for now, since adding a person (seemingly = add a line), are you leaving it as BYOD?

Unless they have pulled it, the SE is free but you must also port in a new number to get it for free.
It was available however can't be combined with free line offer.

I was told following promos can't be combined with FREE LINE PROMO.

Google Pixel 4a 5g for $175
Half off on iPhone 11
and Free iPhone SE with add a line + port in which I was willing to do but was denied.

For all 3 promos listed above, I was told that I will need to add 2 voice lines, 1 paid and 1 free which I did not want.

What does it mean that I have to maintain all lines for 12 months. What happens when I cancel my Tmobile account 6 months from now?

If you have that documented, you need to discuss it with customer service. I've had a problem with every free line, but customer service has always fixed it for me.
Promise happened only over phone and they agreed when i called, that i was promised 3 free lines with 2 paid. They said no one in T-Mobile with 2 paid lines have 3 free lines and they cant help.
I have simple choice plan. Let me know if you or anyone here have 3 free lines on 2 paid lines. Thanks!

If you have been with Tmo for 12 years, then you must know they are all about dangling promos that involve no-contract "contracts." Many of their promo terms require customers to lock in service for 2 to 3 years or even longer. So yes, essentially it is a contract one is signing if they want to bite the T-mobile promo apple.
The only "contract" I've had is with the device, which is 0% interest and pay the device over 24 billing cycles. I can pick up and leave anytime I want, but if I do I simply pay off the device. But you can bring your own device and never have to worry about that aspect. This isn't the same as "2 year contract and we'll stiff you with a heavy disconnect penalty of you choose to leave."

Read the fine print. I took advantage of the last free line promo back in Oct.'20 and I made changes to my line so now I don't qualify for the free line. Since then I've been paying for the line and the 6gb of data that they attach to it—you can't go lower than 6gb of data, it's automatically attached. I was assured many times by customer service text that it would be no cost but they are a bunch of bologna, since they kept saying the credits will show up the next month blah blah. Finally I called them this month (Mar'21) and asked him to just tell me the truth and he said the notes say many have asked upper management but your free line request was denied, MAKE ZERO SENSE. Now I'm paying 30 more a month since October. It is a rip off and a scam. Don't get suckered into these TMO offers, be happy with what you have and don't get suckered into something "free", as we all know, NOTHING is free.

I know there will be some who say, I did it with no problems.... not my case.

Now I'm looking into leaving TMO after 15 years, I can't wait. Been eyeing the ATT prepaid.

If you want just the free line then yes, you are "added a line/person" and BYOD. You could call / chat later to add a phone promo like the SE2 on us if you have a number to port in, for example. You can do that after the SIM shipped and you have a number/line assigned to port into. Waiting a couple of days is fine but don't wait too long if you are eying a phone promo as then can disappear or stop/restart and then you may not qualify any longer as there was a gab in between (happened to me before).

I plan on grabbing the line first and within the next 72/96hh or so to make up my mind what/if phone promo to use but do that before the end of the Weekend.

I just added my 4th free line AND combined it with the 50% discount on Pixel 4a 5G. I guess I'll have to wait and see.

You have to maintain at least 2 active paid lines to qualify for the free line because the free line is given through bill credits. If you cancel any of the paid lines falling below the 2 minimum you'll lose the bill credit and the free line will no longer be free. If you decide to cancel all lines at the same time and go somewhere else, you're fine
