TMO doesn't want people doing what you're wanting to do.
To accomplish it, you would need to:
1. Add free line.
2. Wait a year + one day.
3. Port out paid line to another carrier.
4. Keep paid line active on another carrier for 90 days (to preserve number).
5. Port old number back in on free line.
This whole process has taken you 1.25 years.
I have 2 of my free lines in a iPad and a Samsung S4 tablet, with UNLIMITED data.
You have to call them and tell them you want to use the line (promo line) in a tablet but don't want to lose the promotion and you don't want to open a new line for this.
What they did for me, was block the phone service on the line and kept the messaging and data. That way I am able to use it in my tablet.
Every summer my daughter comes and visit from Germany. I take one of the sim card out of my tablet and put it in her phone..
I call T-Mobile and have them unblock the phone service. That way, my daughter has a phone while she is here in country.
When she leaves I call them back and get it blocked again. I have been doing this for close to 5 years. So I know for a fact it works.
Tomorrow I will be calling to try and get another free line.. (Fingers Crossed)
Hope this helps

The rep I talked to yesterday told me that the Tracfone number did not qualify for the $830 off promo, but the T-force rep I had been communicating told me that it should because the system recognized it as a Verizon number.
The rep I talked to today wasn't sure about the number because Tracfone uses T-mobile as one of their carriers in addition to AT&T and Verizon. She told me it might not qualify for the promo.
I took a chance and went ahead with the process, and the Tracfone number was successfully ported (The phone's IMEI is the account number, which is required for the port in along with the pin code). She told me that it did not necessarily mean that the number was good for the promotion. The system would determine it automatically. I guess only the time will tell. I can at least get $415 for my XR which is not all that bad even if the port-in does not qualify.
If it's a paid 9th line, your total will be $176. The 9th thru 12th lines are normally +$30 each but one of your existing free lines will automatically take over that $30 slot so your adding $20 - 20% hookup.
If you're looking at it online showing the $270 total, that doesn't include all of your discounts/free lines. $270 - $30 free 9th line - $20 free 8th line - $44 (20% hookup on remaining $220) = $176. Or it's $270 - $30 free 9th line - $20 free 8th line - $20 free 7th line - $40 (20% on remaining $200) = $160.
MAGENTA9 is the original Magenta 1.0 plan and MGNTA9 is the newly announced Magenta plan (5GB hotspot, 100GB priority data). Definitely switch to the new Magenta plan as your free lines and hookup transfer over; there's no downside to the switch.
Magenta 1.0 20 % hookup 8 lines:
Line 1 & 2 Paid
Line 3-6 Free
Line 7 &8 Paid $ Free BOGO Costco $300 deal
I belive I'm at $112, and will get the 9th line via AAL. I was told I can't got to MGNTA2 yet since my billing cycle is 26th so maybe it'll be MAGENTA9 first then manually ask to switch to MGNTA9. I was told that upon switching the numbers will be weird until the system settles all the discounts, etc.
Thanks.
Each retail box of Tracfone has an indication which network it uses. My cheapo LG phone from HSN had "LTE-V" (V meaning Verizon) on the back of the box, and the number it was assigned to was with Verizon Network.
I have learned that the T-mobile system only identifies the number based on which network it is with but not based on which MVMO it is with. My case was with Verizon so it should be OK although I am still not 100% confident.

nevertheless, he was unable to add ff 2 lines on us promo back with FRLTULFM9 even though you said you confirmed couple others had it on their FRLTULFM9 plan. oh well
last thing about google voice # being ineligible. rep also said free google service dont qualify as port in for the iphone deal. however, he checked out the google # i gave him and hes seeing those google voice # as LANDLINE !!! which means landline qualify for the port in. i guess it depends on your google nume whether tmobile seeing them as landline or as voip num
I have Tmobile One with Plus Promo on all lines, hookup, etc (FRLTUL4LP t-mobile SOC code) and 8 lines with 4 being no cost after adding the latest no cost line yesterday at Costco. It was definitely more difficult today getting the reps to add the OnePlus Promo and kickback on the latest free line.
I know that to add more lines i would have to change to a new soc code but of course hesitant since every Tmobile rep is a potential trainwreck. Been reading how the bill drops once you get to 9-12 lines so I am thinking about it but really don't want to go through the hell of trying to correct problems as are sure to happen.
I guess now is the time to research and do so it gives time to correct the issues and be ready for the next free line promo.
What is the best soc code for me since my current one is FRLTUL4LP? I'm thinking about requesting a higher up manager since they have more privs and know the system better if I try this.
Now I am intrigued to do this add a line as people are saying once you get over 8 lines the bill gets reduced? Anyone upgrade to soc that allows more lines without major errors requiring hours to fix with tmobile reps?
Google voice numbers cannot be used to port in and get phone on discount. You will need non Tmobile MVNO to port like cricket, verizon, att etc.
Even if you are able to port in, the promo to get bill credits for phone will drop.
