TMO doesn't want people doing what you're wanting to do.
To accomplish it, you would need to:
1. Add free line.
2. Wait a year + one day.
3. Port out paid line to another carrier.
4. Keep paid line active on another carrier for 90 days (to preserve number).
5. Port old number back in on free line.
This whole process has taken you 1.25 years.
I have 2 of my free lines in a iPad and a Samsung S4 tablet, with UNLIMITED data.
You have to call them and tell them you want to use the line (promo line) in a tablet but don't want to lose the promotion and you don't want to open a new line for this.
What they did for me, was block the phone service on the line and kept the messaging and data. That way I am able to use it in my tablet.
Every summer my daughter comes and visit from Germany. I take one of the sim card out of my tablet and put it in her phone..
I call T-Mobile and have them unblock the phone service. That way, my daughter has a phone while she is here in country.
When she leaves I call them back and get it blocked again. I have been doing this for close to 5 years. So I know for a fact it works.
Tomorrow I will be calling to try and get another free line.. (Fingers Crossed)
Hope this helps

Cost of phone + tax + assistance = $1066
Instant credit = $80
Assuming that the instant credit was applied towards down payment,
total remaining on the phone = $1066 - (460+80) = $526 = $21.92 you owe per month
Your credit = $830 - $80 = $750 = $31.25 credit per month
Net is going to be $31.25 - $21.92 = $9.33 credit per month.
If you do the math another way, your total out-of-pocket expense should be $1066 - $830 = $236. Since you paid $460, you should get back $460 - $236 = $224 = $9.33 (credit) per month.
2 Many people here have use Google voice port no problem, even recently
So there is a pattern that it works. We may be singing a different tune if there is widespread denial Google voice port after this going. Until then many will chance it.
3 People have hard time finding porting number from eBay.
Magenta 1.0 20 % hookup 8 lines:
Line 1 & 2 Paid
Line 3-6 Free
Line 7 &8 Paid $ Free BOGO Costco $300 deal
I belive I'm at $112, and will get the 9th line via AAL. I was told I can't got to MGNTA2 yet since my billing cycle is 26th so maybe it'll be MAGENTA9 first then manually ask to switch to MGNTA9. I was told that upon switching the numbers will be weird until the system settles all the discounts, etc.
Thanks.
3 paid lines: $70 + $50 + $20 = $140 - %20 hookup = $112. [edit for 3 paid lines]
However many free lines you add on top of this, they're free so they don't impact the above price!
When I updated between old Magenta and new Magenta, they set the switch to happen with the next billing cycle because a mid-billing switch was more problematic for reasons I don't remember. There's always a worry with a change but once my new billing cycle happened, my price stayed the same so hookup plus free lines moved over as expected. And I didn't have any weird numbers nor had to wait for the system to work its way through so you've got nothing to worry about.
But we have a situation here where people are struggling, begging for port numbers. Most of the other port in revenue such as Freedom pop and such are also risky as they can be from T-Mobile also. Only surefire and reasonably price as of now are cricket and visible. They are going fast.
Someone should create a wiki of a reliable port in source, cost, effort.
Things on our side is.
1)Google voice has always work for me. I can use that excuse
2)If the port was not valid for the promo, it should have rejected it flat out, not seeing the promo applied today and gone a month later.
3) Do the promo via chat. Let them confirm the promo is valid

NVM, looks like it cannot be done online, has to be via CS rep.

It might've worked in the past when there was no such restriction mentioned for GV but now that they call it out specifically as not qualifying, the risk of it actually not qualifying seems astronomically high. Heck, I'd even spring for a $30 AT&T prepaid plan if I couldn't find a cheaper port-in option.
Check you tmobile account through website. Under notification you will see the promo is dropped for ported GV line.GV lines do not qualify. Have first hand experience.
It appears it does, but in a month you will have to deal with making multiple calls to get it corrected. don't know at that time it will as the promo might not be valid.
Rest its up to you.
