For my case, T-Mobile didn't call FP and it just went through. I also got the text to ask me to call T-Mobile to complete the port. But T-Mobile rep just verified my account # and PIN and then it's done.
I recommend to chat with FP and confirm account # and PIN. If they are correct, it should be good.
BTW, is your FP number the legacy VOIP line or the new Premium line? The old VOIP line will be landline and take long time.
it's a new premium account not legacy. I verify my FP info a 3rd time via chat but the tmo rep transferred me over to at&t instead of FP -- what a mess

If you gave them an IMEI for trade in and then later switched phones you are fine. They will update the IMEI and update the trade in accordingly. Just take a picture of the new IMEI from the new phone before you send it in.

Nothing to worry about. I have done it in the past with the iphone 6 and realized that I can buy an iphone 7 or 8 dont remember for cheap and get an extra $300 or $400 in rebate
Did you happen to contact T-force first about shipping different phone with different IMEI?

I am in the same spot too as I had Iphone 7 Plus but bought Iphone 8 on e-bay for $169 to get the full credit of $830.

However, Iphone 8 was arriving today and promotion was noted as ending yesterday so I went ahead and opened free line, ordered Iphone 12 yesterday and also provided IMEI for Iphone 7 trade in.

Now today, I have received the iphone 8 and don't know if it will be OK sending over iphone 8 without contacting t-force first.

It shows as ATT on T-Mobile side. That's why they transferred you to ATT. But as long as your account #/pin are correct, you don't need to call FP.

There is a new promotion T538 which doesn't need port-in. You can check with T-Force and see whether it can stack with free line. If yes, you can get this one.

I chatted with T-Force on FB and Twitter about this issue. Got conflict info. Twitter rep said it's okay to switch device, but it should be in same model (i.e. iPhone 8 B to replace iPhone 8 A). FB rep said this promotion is bound to IMEI and trade-in device cannot be switched. Looks like there is a risk.
You can talk with T-Force to triple check.

Good info

I'll check the device to make sure it's in good trade condition before I refuse delivery of the first phone I ordered.
If you purchased phone from e-bay. Don't refuse delivery. It will void your money back guarantee.

Just accept the delivery and then ask seller to return for refund.

If seller claims you refused delivery to e-bay, e-bay will not refund your money and seller gets to keep both the phone and your money.

It looks like that needs a trade in:

Purchase an Apple iPhone XR, XS, 11, or 12 using T-Mobile's Equipment Installment Plan (EIP), activate a line on a qualifying rate plan and trade in a qualifying device and save up to $830 via 24 monthly bill credits.

Sadly it looks like the sudden termination of the T439 promo, free line promo, and other recent promos have created a huge mess for many here who expected they would have more time to get proper trade-in devices, port numbers, etc.

That is why I dislike that T-Mobile is so vague and non-transparent about the expiration dates of most of their promos. It's almost like they want to create stress and confusion for their customers who do not jump in immediately on these deals.

Both T439 and T538 need trade-in. No difference. But T538 doesn't need a port-in. If you are looking at T536, it doesn't need trade-in, but port-in is required.

Do we need to port in to get free iphone SE?

Bud... They give you a free line AND a free phone (or deal on better phone) yet you still find something to complain about?

P probably stands for Promo plan which is most likely the reason why you never qualify for free line promos cause your plan is already considered a promotional plan.
