It would be quite the experience playing games on something this wide, but there's still a lot of games that bum me out that don't support even 21:9 though. Do most of you guys pick these up for more general work and stuff like that? I guess depending on what games you play you'll have a lot more luck with supported titles though too.

Struggling to chose between this and the oled, I'd figure the oled is better equipped to gaming than office work based on burn in problems?... Ratings is giving the oled top reviews for office work too now. Very confused.. was going for the 49 inch curved but now you got me thinking again lol, the choice is between the lg oled48cx and c49rg90...odessey seems definitely for strict gaming
If I could do it over again, I would probably have passed on the Samsung 49" ultrawide. Lots of full screen programs or videos will get vertical bars. Only a few Youtube videos are 5120x1440. The worst thing of all with working from home is that it is difficult to share material w/o funky resize on teams/zoom....I actually added a 27" 1440p next to this one to use for sharing. I essentially have "3 27" QHD 1440p worth of screen real-estate. It basically takes up my entire 5 foot desk. With the 48" OLED, I think there are apps that shift the pixels every few minutes slightly to avoid the burning when using it as a monitor.

Where? I think they announced the 42/43" panels would be available, but no manufacturers have ordered any yet. If they build it for Computer Monitor specs, then forget it it will be like $4000 Alienware oled monitor that no-one buys Smilie
i think this is the LG oled panels tv. not really monitor. i think they are slated to come out 2021

monoprice is my goto for cables and such. They became popular due to their pricing, but I don't see myself paying hefty price tag for monoprice brands.

If you're doing mostly work, I advise against a 49" screen and go for a smaller 38" ultrawide, 34" ultrawide as those are better for work (dealing with spreadsheets especially). I have a 49" 4K TV as I use a primary monitor; one of the higher rated Sony's for computer use. Even though it looks great, it is terrible for work use. It is a lot screen to look at and difficult to see everything.

I found using a 38" or 34" ultrawide are much easier on the eyes. I also tried dual 27" 1440P monitors, and while good, *I found the 34" ultrawide (3440 x 1440) to be the sweet spot for work usage and price if you want a single large monitor.

Having said that, the LG OLED 55" our company used for video editing was gorgeous, but it wasn't used* as a computer monitor as burn-in was an issue.

I would also advise against 49 too. I work as a web developer, while it's good to have multiple windows and apps open at the same time, i find it's stressing my eyes out. And I would prefer more vertical screen real estate for more lines of codes. To me, I would go with 38 just for that reason.

Basically 2 x 24 1440p monitors in one. Pricey. You could get 2 x 40+ 4K monitors for this price.
Check your math. This is the same size and resolution as two 27" (not 24") 1440p monitors.

uh.. 49 / 2 = 24.5
Like I said, check your math.
Here's the homework problem for you.

1)
What is the width and height of a right angle triangle with a width:height ratio of 2560:1440 (or equivalently 16:9) and hypotenuse measuring 27 inches.

2)
What is the width and height of a right angle triangle with a width:height ratio of 5120:1440 (or equivalently 32:9) and hypotenuse measuring 49 inches.

Here is the answer key

As someone who used to buy from them when they almost strictly sold cables, I feel like its worth noting that their popularity had to do with not just the cost but also the quality of their cables. When they started branching out some of their headphones made waves, and as someone who purchased various products they've produced over the years that were in the $80-200 as alternatives to or alongside their alternatives that were twice the price, I've never been disappointed.

All THAT said, I do understand why someone spending $800 on a monitor like this might be okay with putting up the extra $400 for something like Samsungs G9 (same panel, different curvature amongst other things) but Monoprice has a pretty stellar reputation.

Hey dude, do not confuse display resolution with physical dimensions. You can have a 2560:1440 monitor at less than 27". Ask me how I know this... oh right I used to have 2 x 24" 1440p monitors.

It doesn't matter though, this is still a meh deal at best. I went 43" 4K for $399 and I am in love. 4K is the way. These super dooper ultra mega widescreen 1440p are just funky.

Damn dude, tripling down when you're wrong?
You don't even need to do the math if you're not capable. The proof is literally right here:
27" vs 49"
http://www.displaywars.com/27-inc...20x1440%7D
24" vs 49"
http://www.displaywars.com/24-inc...20x1440%7D

Remember that display sizes in inches tell you the size of the diagonal (length of the hypotenuse) and without knowing the ratio of width to hight you don't actually know what the screen area is. Doubling the height of a monitor gets you twice the area. Doubling the width gets you twice the area. Doubling the diagonal doesn't tell you what happens to the area unless you know what the width: height ratio is. For example, if a screen is a perfect square (ratio of 1:1) then doubling the diagonal (and keeping the 1:1 ratio) actually gives you a screen with 4 times the area. If you want to compare the area of screens with different ratios (16:9 vs 32:9) you actually have to do the math.

Hey thanks for the great advice (also all the other people here, thank you)...it won't be for actual work, just hobby work lol, I make media for youtube / instagram, website stuff, tiny bit of coding, lots of excel stuff and trading (that's a biggie because I use different programs at once for charting)...so still 49 inch seemed like a good idea. I also saw a dell 38 inch and it had two vertical side monitors you can attach. Either way, great advice here thank you!
