Dang, I'd love a color laser, but I've been holding off for years hoping someday one of the major brands would come out with a non-commercially priced 11x17 color laser. Seems once you make the jump to 11x17 in a color laser you're automatically thrown into $3-4000 machines. Which I find odd since there have been so many 11x17 and 13x19 inkjet printers priced more for the consumer market. I refuse to ever buy another inkjet though. I don't print color often enough and always have issues with the ink due to them sitting too long.

Same here but more around $200 range though
Same here. I'm really looking for a duplex scan model and I'll probably pull the trigger at below 300.

No, definitely not. You'll want a photo printer. The Pro-100 is a decent entry and I've blwon up prints beyond 11 x 17 with ultra high resolution. Back in the day they were virtually "free" after rebates and a ton of free photo papers. Nowadays ... not sure / probably not. But that would be the way to go ... not Laser. Laser printing is OK for business PPT slides, etc. but not great for photography especially ones you plan on selling.

anyone know how repairable these are. Hate having to buy a new laser printer every 5 years
I would make sure your printer is designed for your volume needs. That said, it's a consumer electronic - you aren't buying a commercial grade copying machine/printer that is the size of a table top arcade cabinet.

duplex scan, higher capacity toners and possibly better print quality.
Duplex scan, higher capacity and faster print speeds is what it looks like it brings ... which may very well be worth the extra dollars depending on your use case. It has the same print quality.

If you mean whether it allows you to scan a set of pages, and then manually flip that set of pages and scan the other sides of those pages...it does not. This is why I returned mine. You literally have to manually scan both sides of each sheet individually.
What is the use of scanning 2 sides when the scanned documents are going to be stored digitally? You don't see 2 sides on a digital image ?

I had gotten a bw laser Canon a few years back. Asked my wife numerous times then if she wanted me to spend the $50-75 extra for color and she didn't care because she was in the office regularly. So I used that money for something else. Now with COVID, she doesn't go to the office and regretted the decision. So here we are with inflated prices. At least we can sell the bw one.

FWIW unless you're dying for a printer today, I would wait. Prices of monitors have been trickling ... in some cases crashing down. Other "COVID" items have been getting much cheaper as well. Printers will follow suit soon enough. Nothing has changed from a printer tech / inventory standpoint. They are just commanding higher prices due to "demand" and making a pretty penny. Again, just my opinion but I see printer prices coming down soon. It's not like people have a high rate of swapping printers.

I think it's more like ... people want to scan single sided but not have to flip the pages automatically. It can be annoying depending on the volume.

Same. I would jump on an 11x17 laser in an instant if it wasn't the price of a used Camry.

Do you have a more specific direction to point then a photo printer? Thanks for the advice
