The real future is in larger vehicles, like SUVs, which are not idea for batteries and benefit more from the energy density of hydrogen.

This Mirai is built on Lexus LS platform and I have to say it is the most comfortable car I have driven. If you live in an area where there are Hydrogen fueling station then don't wait up, just get one. And buy it outright to get all the rebates.

One of the biggest problems we have with wind energy is it cant be stored, but you could use that energy to create Hydrogen! If we could generate enough, we could replace the whole grid
with pipes of hydrogen with zero loss of energy. Those HIGH POWER electric lines strung in the air loose a lot of energy just distributing it. I only see good on this one and I am not a tree hugger. A good Gas motor is not is pretty hard to beat, but electric motors are durable and offer the advantages of quite, a smooth ride..
I am not for solar and wind for grid use, but as a way to develop and store hydrogen seems like the logical steps forward.
As far as this deal goes, with all the rebates and subsidies, it would be hard to ignore the price point.
We could be using Natural gas in big rig fleet vehicles now. It just seems it does not get the attention it should because it puts the source of heat for homes on the spot market. That is if regulations curb production the value of the energy is changes they way Texas electricity went during the freeze last month. For any replacement of any fuel the price and dependability are huge factors in judging the value of the perceived benefit. Lithium ion batteries are a ecological nightmare if used in a world scale. Hydrogen seems too perfect.
I want to check one of these out under the hood, but not until California opens back up. I guess another year to build out the hydrogen stations..
Yes, the new President and other politicians are pushing electric because they are invested in it and set to make a ton of money! Don't you realize money runs the world? Those who disagree haven't looked into the facts. Pelosi's husband, as an example, invested heavily in Tesla.
Look at the trend lines for EV vs ICE cars. I think you'd find your 20 year prediction may be a bit off. 😅
i see electric car as a secondary car for a family.
bottom line, i don't think they directly compete with each other.
Alas. It won't.
Keep in mind serious EV battery research only started happening in the last decade. Wish I could see the future, imagine what batteries will be capable of in 2030.

Sounds like you have some hands on use..
Is this price currently being subsidized on top of the pump price? and is the pump charging a road tax?
What is the current way the make they make gas (Chemical reaction or electrolysis? )?
That price per KWH needs to get a lot lower than these prices by a factor of 4 to be competitive with gas.. That is why I was thinking the Solar/Wind would be perfect for use when supply of electricity is in excess.
