I went to Hamer Toyota and they had balls to mark those up 3k plus 1k gps add-on. Came to $56.5k with no negotiation because stimulus money is here and dealers wants it all. Sad state

Hydrogen Fuel cell is exempt from CA rebate income limits.

"The income cap applies for all eligible vehicle types except fuel-cell electric vehicles."

Good deal on a nice car, it's just a shame that the technology may never take off on the most abundant element in the universe
It will, but it's going to take time. 10 years ago I never thought there would be 3 car companies selling fuel cell cars to the public, let alone one I could afford.

The real future is in larger vehicles, like SUVs, which are not idea for batteries and benefit more from the energy density of hydrogen.

You can check all the existing Hydrogen fueling station and upcoming ones (one being built or permits in progress etc.) on this website;

https://cafcp.org/

This Mirai is built on Lexus LS platform and I have to say it is the most comfortable car I have driven. If you live in an area where there are Hydrogen fueling station then don't wait up, just get one. And buy it outright to get all the rebates.
I bought mine yesterday and love it. Doesn't feel real to get a car this nice for next to free.

Just wait until they make the hydrogen paste work better, then everyone will be driving hydrogen cars (not these gas versions but with paste).

Yes, and it's not a good deal because you don't get the $20,000 cash incentive.

Tell that to my Model 3 that has been charged by the panels on my roof for the last 30k miles.

Gas is better. Or for you fruit cakes get Electric. Hydro never took off because it's not smart. Never was.
I was thrilled to read about this tech in use. I had heard big rigs (fleets) would be the first to become main stream. I did not know this was available.

One of the biggest problems we have with wind energy is it cant be stored, but you could use that energy to create Hydrogen! If we could generate enough, we could replace the whole grid
with pipes of hydrogen with zero loss of energy. Those HIGH POWER electric lines strung in the air loose a lot of energy just distributing it. I only see good on this one and I am not a tree hugger. A good Gas motor is not is pretty hard to beat, but electric motors are durable and offer the advantages of quite, a smooth ride..

I am not for solar and wind for grid use, but as a way to develop and store hydrogen seems like the logical steps forward.

As far as this deal goes, with all the rebates and subsidies, it would be hard to ignore the price point.

We could be using Natural gas in big rig fleet vehicles now. It just seems it does not get the attention it should because it puts the source of heat for homes on the spot market. That is if regulations curb production the value of the energy is changes they way Texas electricity went during the freeze last month. For any replacement of any fuel the price and dependability are huge factors in judging the value of the perceived benefit. Lithium ion batteries are a ecological nightmare if used in a world scale. Hydrogen seems too perfect.

I want to check one of these out under the hood, but not until California opens back up. I guess another year to build out the hydrogen stations..

Hydrogen costs about $17/kg. The Mirai has a capacity of 5.6kg and can drive up to 400 miles, best case. $95/tank. For the same miles in an EV costs about $14.

Uh. Are you assuming batteries are grown in organic kosher non-gmo cage free farms? Corporations and authoritarian regimes are enslaving people, blowing up mountain sides in Africa and China because they can't mine lithium and other rare earth minerals fast enough. The argument for both EVs and hydrogen is that they're emission-less, not that they're environmentally friendly. Nothing about cars will ever be environmentally friendly.
Perfect is the enemy of good. A reusable energy store like a battery that can get recharged to hundreds of thousands of miles by potentially clean energy will be better in multitudes of ways than an ICE car. Perfect, no. But better, and as battery tech and battery recycling matures it will get even better.

And this is the real reason electric is catching on - not because it's a superior technology. Smart companies (Honda, GM, Toyota, etc) are investing in technologies other than electric because they know charging batteries with fossil fuels is a stop-gap and not a real solution to the problem.
You're assuming battery tech today will be battery tech in a couple years. The advancements being made will make EVs the obvious choice long before some other more complex ecosystem could ever be spun up. Hydrogen could have had a chance in the commercial shipping space but I'd bet battery will win out there too.

Yeah having a car with a full 300mi tank in my garage every morning is super inconvenient. I miss those gas station stops!

It's 100% true. Gasoline powered cars still dominate the roads and sales by a long shot and that's not set to change for at least 20 years!

Yes, the new President and other politicians are pushing electric because they are invested in it and set to make a ton of money! Don't you realize money runs the world? Those who disagree haven't looked into the facts. Pelosi's husband, as an example, invested heavily in Tesla.
You should invest in tin foil, those hats need several layers!

Look at the trend lines for EV vs ICE cars. I think you'd find your 20 year prediction may be a bit off. 😅

I would agree if all battery research stopped today.

Alas. It won't.

Keep in mind serious EV battery research only started happening in the last decade. Wish I could see the future, imagine what batteries will be capable of in 2030.

Sounds like you have some hands on use..

Is this price currently being subsidized on top of the pump price? and is the pump charging a road tax?

What is the current way the make they make gas (Chemical reaction or electrolysis? )?

That price per KWH needs to get a lot lower than these prices by a factor of 4 to be competitive with gas.. That is why I was thinking the Solar/Wind would be perfect for use when supply of electricity is in excess.
