Ok so is this like a warranty in the way that it is 50k or 6 years whichever comes first ?
Or is that just an estimate of how long the fuel card will last and even if you have the car for 10 years and 70k miles you can still use the fuel card as long as there is still money left on the card?
Also what about an at home electrolyzer?
Do they exist and if so how much do they cost and how much in electricity would it cost for a fill up?
And what kind of range are we talking on a full tank?
Would it be same as gas?
Because with the low price of the car
I could see it being feasible outside of the LA/SF area if the electrolyzer is less that 3 or 4k
And if the car has a range on par with a traditional ICE
also is the fuel card transferable?
if I'm on the east coast could I sell the card?
if I could sell the card for 7k ,half price
and buy my own electrolyzer that would be even better
That home hydrogen electrolyzer doesn't exist for your price.
The local hydrogen refill station installed theirs for a couple of million, I doubt it will be that much cheaper for a home version.
The media/Tesla have unfortunately shaped the consensus that fuel cells are have no future and thus, infrastructure has been slow to expand, funding may dry up and go directly to BEV related componentry and of course, sales will continue to slow down.
Hydrogen has massive benefits including long distance and rapid refuels. But this is the US and we are no longer able to invest into things like this as a country.
Please help. thanks!
Yes, the new President and other politicians are pushing electric because they are invested in it and set to make a ton of money! Don't you realize money runs the world? Those who disagree haven't looked into the facts. Pelosi's husband, as an example, invested heavily in Tesla.

Was a shell station , now a chevron station.....
CNG is good for fleets with their own tanks to fill up , but there are not many other places for the public to fill up , Plus the tanks have to be replaced I think every 10 years
~$34k after taxes (+/- $1k?)
Take off $8k for Federal tax credit
Don't think I get any CA state rebate (I make over the income limit)
So that's $26k for just the car.
I get free fuel for 3 years (I'll never hit the free $15k limit considering how less I drive). If I consider how much I spend on gas (8k miles/year, $4/gal, 25mpg) over 3 years, I'd have spent $4k on gas.
Effectively, the Mirai is a $22k car for me with the amount of fuel costs I would save from a gas car.
Then if after 4 years it's worth ~$9k (according to previous Mirai depreciation, reminder that previous Mirai has a much higher MSRP).
A 2017 Camry SE with 30k miles is worth $15k (from $27k new, after tax).
If I sold both of the at the 4 year mark:
* Mirai costed me originally $22k, sold for $9k
* Camry costed me originally $27k, sold for $15k
It seems to be trading the more luxurious cabin with refueling convenience at this point as the cost of ownership seems to be within several thousand of a Camry.
Tell me if I got anything wrong! I'm genuinely considering buying one but I've been on the fence for a week now.
The distance between the Mission Hills station and Coalinga is 177 miles and Coalinga to San Ramon is 175 miles so it should be no trouble.
Most of the people on this thread have valid points.
The price is certainly tempting to those that can afford it.
The concerns I have is that when something goes wrong (minor or major), we can only go to the dealer.
After the 3 years maintenance free program, how much is the cost to extend the warranty/ service plan?
I know that everyone will receive different insurance numbers from their own insurance companies so costs will vary.
Is the sales tax on the car based on the MSRP, or the actual final purchase price aside from where you live? Different products have different taxation (i.e. cell phones)
If those that purchase the car can DM me, I'd appreciate it.
I'm in the SoCal area.
Thank you SD Fam!
It's arguable that our total cost to operate the car for 3 years is $11,677 - $5,000 = $6,677. Just switched to Esurance and my new auto insurance premium is down to about $85/month just for the Mirai portion--I have 2 other cars on the policy. 100/300 coverage. Switched away from Geico to save about $600 total for the 3 car policy per 6 months. We live in zip 91402.
Comparing the $6,677 Mirai net lease cost with fuel included against a 30mpg gas car, that's 1,200 gallons x $3.30 average per gallon = $3,960 cost of gas plus the cost of the car or depreciation--I'm happy with where we ended up.
Yes, I went for this money saving deal even though I feel like the Mirai is ugly lol. The inside is actually great. Fully loaded, drives pretty nicely on the freeway. Wish it had a sunroof. We also value the carpool stickers and rental car. I've been able to reserve all wheel drive vehicles for snow trips.
Other notes: We have 29,000 miles on the car now, and the Michelin tires have plenty of tread left. We won't need to buy a new set when we return the lease.
We also applied for an American Express Platinum before leasing the Mirai. We swiped the entire amount of $4,975 at the Toyota dealer, $2,500 cash DAS plus the $2,475 MSDs. Got the 100,000 point sign up bonus basically in one shot--I only need 90,000 Amex points to cover a business class roundtrip flight to Asia in the future, normally a $3,500 flight. That benefit alone justified the $550 annual fee.
At the time of our lease, we could have done a one-pay lease which would have been around $10,877 or so, but it would have been too hard on our budget.
2nd year registration was around $450 and 3rd year is $429. First year was included in the cash due at signing, like with most leases.
All this to say....we won't go for a 2021 Mirai unless the numbers are close to our 2019. I'd be willing to pay a bit more since it's a nicer design and fits 5 people. There's a $3,500 incentive right now for turning in our current Mirai but it's still not cheap enough for my slickdeals blood lol. The current $20k purchase incentive, $15k fuel card and 0% financing are huge, but the unpredictable resale value scares me. It also doesn't seem to be a very popular car on Turo. So, I'm not really seeing how some folks are saying this is a free car.
Cheers!!
