I went to Hamer Toyota and they had balls to mark those up 3k plus 1k gps add-on. Came to $56.5k with no negotiation because stimulus money is here and dealers wants it all. Sad state

Hydrogen Fuel cell is exempt from CA rebate income limits.

"The income cap applies for all eligible vehicle types except fuel-cell electric vehicles."

I own one. Definitely the wrong forum to post this in even though it is truly a slick deal.

The media/Tesla have unfortunately shaped the consensus that fuel cells are have no future and thus, infrastructure has been slow to expand, funding may dry up and go directly to BEV related componentry and of course, sales will continue to slow down.
Elon Musk has stated that fuel cells have the potential to succeed EVs. If you want to blame Tesla for the slow fuel cell adoption, blame them for being great EVs, not some propaganda conspiracy.

this car show the perfect failure of Toyota transformation. VW and Ford understand it before it was to Late. GM dont understand it like Toyota ( the $120 K Hummer EV doesn't really count ) that EV is the Future its the same as 1900-1905 everyone said horses will stay forever why we need Cars.

2020 Toyota we focus on ICE engines Cars, ICE ( Internal Combustion Engines ) Cars will be still strong in 10 years.

Hydrogen Fuel Cell have even bigger issues to build an charging network than EV, and nobody is open to invest in it not even Toyota.

something like Beta vs VHS, Beta was better buy VHS win.

history repeats ...FULL EV won already.

This is why love slickdeals. It helps see past the BS. I have been wanting to get this car - but knew it was a bad idea and proved it.

Coworker has one of these and drove it from Long Beach up to SGV every day. I've gotten a ride in it a few times. Really comfy, acceleration felt snappy. He had a hydrogen refueling station at both his exit at home and at work, so no real worry about refueling.

OP said: I have a 70 mile round-trip commute, and have been casually e-shopping for an electric or hybrid commuter car. But I never found something that that was a) well-priced, b) a worthwhile quality-of-life improvement over my current daily, and 3) charging an EV where I live is possible, but annoying.

Um, in a few years, we will have no choice. Wasn't it ordered for the automakers to gradually, but sooner than later, make more EV vehicles over Emission vehicles?
just get a hybrid...prius plug-in does both electric and gas.

Shows how much you know. There's plenty of electricity at night when usage is way down but the wind still blows, water still flows, nat gas still burns, etc.
The issue is on hot days when every business and many houses have their AC on, which uses a lot of electricity.

I'm in so cal and I still can't find a hydrogen that's a reasonable distance away. That's what's really killing the fuel cell market.
Yeah it's tough for anyone not in a metro area. The wife and I are going to test drive this weekend but we are lucky enough there's a Shell Hydrogen station less than a mile from us in Pasadena. We also have a Honda Fit if we ever need to travel further out or don't want to use their rental program.

Let me do some calculations to justify possibly buying this:

~$34k after taxes (+/- $1k?)
Take off $8k for Federal tax credit
Don't think I get any CA state rebate (I make over the income limit)

So that's $26k for just the car.

I get free fuel for 3 years (I'll never hit the free $15k limit considering how less I drive). If I consider how much I spend on gas (8k miles/year, $4/gal, 25mpg) over 3 years, I'd have spent $4k on gas.

Effectively, the Mirai is a $22k car for me with the amount of fuel costs I would save from a gas car.

Then if after 4 years it's worth ~$9k (according to previous Mirai depreciation, reminder that previous Mirai has a much higher MSRP).

A 2017 Camry SE with 30k miles is worth $15k (from $27k new, after tax).

If I sold both of the at the 4 year mark:
* Mirai costed me originally $22k, sold for $9k
* Camry costed me originally $27k, sold for $15k

It seems to be trading the more luxurious cabin with refueling convenience at this point as the cost of ownership seems to be within several thousand of a Camry.

Tell me if I got anything wrong! I'm genuinely considering buying one but I've been on the fence for a week now.
You get 6 years to spend $15 k on fuel if you buy. 3 years for the lease.

Hamer sucks! I go there to look and test drive, then I buy from another dealer. They are quite sleezy and have been for years!
Years ago Longo in El Monte was the one stop Toyota dealer for best deal. Because T cars last so long, was years before I needed another 2 years ago. Got better deal at Carson and Tustin. Avoid the one in G Grove. Sorry this is off topic but couldn't resist.
(So Cal dealers for those outside CA)
