I love my cast iron. I struggle with cast iron pots though. Dealt with constant rust issues. Think I'll just stick with the frying pans.

As long as you're not using it over a campfire, find an enameled one and you'll not regret it. It's worth the full $60. I believe Lodge makes a some reasonably priced, but there are other random brands out there too. Whatever you do, don't fall for the "non-stick coating" marketing B.S. on some of them. Find one that has an actual, visible white-ish enamel interior coating.

I don't put soap of any kind on my cooking pot, pan, skillet ...etc., there is no need to do so.

Nice deal for shipped! If you have a Mendard's in your area you might want to check out there. I got the same one there for $19 a couple months ago.

I have two of those Lodges. They're fantastic for baking bread!

I've never bought a Dutch Oven only because I wasn't sure what purpose it has that my current stock pots can't handle?

I've read in a couple places where they are great for frying (I guess deep sides, so grease doesn't splash out), but again...my heavy stock pot can do that since it has similar dimensions.

Someone please educate me. Big Grin

It's really a matter of preference and function. The cast iron dutch oven can be used in ways your stock pot likely cannot such as in the oven, on the grill or in the campfire. It can get hot and maintain/distribute the heat. It can be great for searing meats for one pot soups or stews or for frying. Last week I used it for a large batch of fried potatoes. Although I have used cast iron all my life and enjoy cooking with it, unless your current stock pot isn't meeting your needs there isn't necessarily a compelling need to replace your stock pot with a cast iron dutch oven for everyday use. I personally use my cast iron dutch oven in the house infrequently (though we use it camping almost exclusively). Just my personal opinion and experience.
