I have some surface mounted "wedge" lights i bought form Amazon that can be set for motion activation and length of on time. They are light enough to fasten onto house siding, deck railing, posts, etc and charge well in even half daylight.
I have one on a front porch railing post near the door step so if anyone comes up it lights. I have that one to turn off after 60 seconds of no one being there.
I've have two in use now for going on 4 years.
