Idea with both is to let water bead up and fall off the car, taking with it any dirt and such from the rain rather than sitting on the paint and eating thru it (acid rain).
Both are sacrificial - wears over time.
...
How long they last depends on your environment and car paint.
..
As for glossiness, which is totally separate from water beading, I still personally prefer Meguiars Gold Class liquid applied with a rotary buffer, hand buffed with a microfibre cloth.
For an average shine, this spray is fine on newer cars where the paint hasn't worn dull.
I'll take free. "Ceramic" or not, beats nothing. Thanks OP.
How is it shill silicone spray? That stuff is awesome.

Was it the Aquapel in the winged applicator, and was it ordered direct from PGW? I can't speak to the other Aquapel-branded products like the sprays, and Amazon apparently can't keep the counterfeits out of their binned inventory.
I use Aquapel on the windshield and Rain-X everywhere else. The beading is exactly the same, but the Rain-X wears off sooner.
I bought the Aquapel winged applicator from Pep Boys about 10 years ago. All I remember is the rain blowing off while driving. I would have to be driving faster using the Aquapel for the rain to fly off. Rain X rain flies off while driving slower.
I used Rain-X wiper fluid for the first time (not knowing about the silicone or whatever other reactive chemical) and it completely clogged up my windshield washer pumps and nozzles. Costed over $500 in parts and labor to replace everything. Never again with Rain-X products.
Anyways, ProjectFarm on YouTube did a pretty comprehensive comparison of spray-on ceramic coatings and waxes. I'd recommend checking that out.
Rainx had a class action lawsuit against them for causing haze on rain sensors. Never heard of any clogging issues. And how did it cost $500. A new pump is roughly $20-30 and all new lines about the same

A friend with an ~2015 AUDI had issues with rain X premix causing issues with his washer fluid low sensor.
I've used rainX concentrated additive mixed into cheap washer fluid in many cars over 20 years and not had any issues.
The only big problem I have ever heard of was someone with regular summer 32F mix in his car during a <<32F winter. Took him days of adding rubbing alcohol to the reservoir to get that all unfrozen....
OOS "Call the store to order" eveywhere in Portland / Vancouver.
and it is $14.99. Did you call to order product? I wouldn't mind trying this for free. I have been using Nu-finish once a year polish to protect the paint after I properly cut and polish with mequiars 105 and 205. It doesn't give the shine like wax, but I am interested in long term protection that short term looks.
Anyone else have a $10 coupon? Not sure how I did, but there it was during checkout. I had to select it under "speed perks rewards". Pretty nice surprise.
Hopefully the rebate center treats that as a gift card and not a coupon.
Although the $12.49 price has now gone back up to $14.99, the rebate is still good until 6/30/21, for up to $14.99, so at worst you pay $2.50 + tax more up-front, and a tiny bit more in tax. Still a deal if you have any use for this. And even if you don't, it's a decent filler if you're tying to get over $100 to qualify for AAP's spend $100 get $12 off your next $50 purchase. You can then give it to a friend.
Not sure if all Advance Auto Parts store is like my local one but they basiclly ignore store pick up orders until you show up to pick up or call to ask for the status. I've never gotten an email from them aout my order being ready ever. This really defeats the whole purpose of in-store pickup. The last time I just showed up, I waited more 20 mins for them to finish helping the customer that was already there and then for them to go look for the items on the shelf.
Out of Stock Here in Southern California. Website want me to pay 9.99 for shipping, no Thank you

I doubt rain-x will last anywhere near as long as the above listed. Most people report it has weeks of lifetime. It wasn't part of the test, but you can see there are tons of products that will fail fast.
These all beat the $23 gloss it spray, $70 F11 top coat, $50 Owner price, $42 the Last Coat 2, $40 Nexgen, $40 Carpro reload, $20 Shine Armor and the $13-$15 three turtle wax applications.
I thought turtle wax was the best one on the market? But now it's Meguiars takes the top podium?
I use the orange RainX (in the gallon jug ~$3) for mirrors and house windows indoors and out. It's great and can be used below freezing temps if needed. After treated kids' toothpaste spatter wipes off with a dry cloth.

This stuff is like gold, hard to find!
For some reason, when you add item to cart it goes back to 14.99. It says it's not eligible for discount.
I bought it anyway. After rebate, I pay $1.05 for it.
Still a deal!
