Only the Platinum card. Also this is in-house cell phone insurance by Amex, Visa and Mastercard's cell phone insurance is administered 3rd party and they are a pain to deal with
To get coverage:
You must charge your monthly Eligible Cellular Wireless Telephone bill to your Eligible Card Account. You are eligible for coverage the first day of the calendar month following the payment of your Eligible Cellular Wireless Telephone bill using your Eligible Card Account. If you pay an Eligible Cellular Wireless Telephone bill with your Eligible Card Account and fail to pay a subsequent bill using your Eligible Card Account in a particular month, your coverage period changes as follows:
Seems to be AIG subsidiary, "Coverage is provided by New Hampshire Insurance Company, an AIG Company."

Just a heads up, With Verizon they get yah by only allowing the autopay discount if you used their credit card or a debit card to pay the bill. Using any other credit card forfeits the auto pay discount.

Verizon says you lose the $10 discount if you pay via CC, but I've never actually tried it.

Anybody with Verizon using a CC and still getting the $10 auto pay discount?

I'm using the Verizon Visa to pay my bill and get to keep the $10 discount.

One is called insurance and the other is called a warranty. I thought when Wells Fargo initially offered it it was called a phone protection warranty. I checked and it's called phone protection insurance now. I don't know if it was always that way and I misread or if they changed it afterwards. So by the definition of insurance, you are right.

Out of curiosity, for those people who have the eligible Amex cards (I don't), is this Amex cell phone protection just damage insurance or an extended warranty covering electronics? Perhaps nobody offers extended warranties covering the electronics/battery outside of Squaretrade and cell phone providers for a (high) monthly charge?

When someone suggested accidentally dropping the phone to break the glass, I wonder if an insurance plan would just fix the screen and leave the bad battery, or do they typically give you a new equivalent phone? As I said earlier, the reason I didn't bother is I'm poor and use sub-$100 Android phones because I can't afford expensive (i)phones.
Even a warranty doesn't really cover expected damage, such as a battery failing over time. Battery failure is often covered for a much smaller period of time than the overall warranty.

I don't think third party insurance fixes your phone, I think they either reimburse you the cost (this is how some small electronics warranties work) or send you a refurb.

So if I am the Platinum card holder (also not a one percenter). The phone bill is in my name and I paid it with the AMEX, can I also file a claim for my sister's phone if something happens to it if she is also on my phone plan?

that's awesome. is that benefit available for any card or just select cards? i have some of the Blue cards
It was available for both my free delta Amex and blue cash Amex.

It's a new feature. It was 13 bucks for me in Florida but may be 16 bucks elsewhere(?). From what I understand once you opt in you automatically pay it every time you rent with that card. Any time I rent a car for more than a day I'll use the card I opted in on so I get the insurance. It's an awesome benefit

that is a really good deal seeing how the rental insurance from the rental company itself is usually $16.99 PER DAY.

thanks!

This is not a deal if you are with Verizon. $10 auto pay per line falls off if you use a CC which is 25-33% on each of my lines with that anount being taken off pre-tax.

This is why I haven't switched to Verizon's new unlimited plans. It makes it ridiculously cost prohibitive to switch out of the their autopay with your bank account and takes away flexibility.

How do you opt in for this? I only see that it offers secondary coverage on my blue cash card.

No, because that's a debit card, not a credit card.
