These are SMR drives: Good for sequential writes. Not good (slow) for random access (RAID or system drive).

However, note that this is likely to be an archive SMR drive that doesn't do well with constant rewrites. This would be good for write once and read many times, but not for write and rewrite.
This drive would generally not be considered good for a NAS but that would depend on your NAS use-case.
Not unless you have it hooked up to a NAS/computer setup with automatic photo backup. This is a bare drive that needs to be hooked up to a NAS/computer.

Are they that bad? The Backblaze data on their enterprise drives looks decent.
This isn't about NAS in general, this is about brain dead OTA photo backup, which is what the WD does. It's a specific answer to a specific question. Someone asking if this USB drive is good for wireless photo backup isn't rolling their own NAS.
