These are SMR drives: Good for sequential writes. Not good (slow) for random access (RAID or system drive).

Price wise, this is at the $15/TB threshold for a drive to be considered a deal.

However, note that this is likely to be an archive SMR drive that doesn't do well with constant rewrites. This would be good for write once and read many times, but not for write and rewrite.

This drive would generally not be considered good for a NAS but that would depend on your NAS use-case.

Not unless you have it hooked up to a NAS/computer setup with automatic photo backup. This is a bare drive that needs to be hooked up to a NAS/computer.

I guess its just luck of the draw - All my Seagate drives still run fine and several of my Western Digital have died

Are they that bad? The Backblaze data on their enterprise drives looks decent.

LOL no one should not look at a My Cloud Home. One only has to look at the WD My Cloud Home subforum [wd.com] to see the many complaints about that device. There are better entry level real NAS devices than the half baked mess that is the My Cloud Home. Or one can create/DIY their own NAS using an; old PC or even a Raspberry Pi 4, and some hard drives. There are a number of free and paid NAS operating systems available to use on one's DIY/home rolled NAS.

This isn't about NAS in general, this is about brain dead OTA photo backup, which is what the WD does. It's a specific answer to a specific question. Someone asking if this USB drive is good for wireless photo backup isn't rolling their own NAS.
