I believe they are referring to the notion that many manufacturing practices aren't the most transparent and poor in regard to oversight with rampant exploitation toward workers in such an area of very high population density.
However I do agree we have to use our language more carefully nowadays as this can be conflated with unnecessary prejudicial behaviours. I'm all for upgrading our use of language and putting actual thought behind what we say.
