Saw 2 in stock in my area in NY, so I went to the store and they weren't on display. Went up to register and it seemed like the supervisor knew exactly the model and size I was looking for, and went to the back and retrieved it for me.

My guess is an employee is trying to keep it for themselves... but I left one for them

Lucky! The 4 I bought lasted only lasted half a year.
In the past three years, I've bought about 50 and have had zero failures. What are you guys doing? Washing them first?

Just wanted to say that this is nuts. $54 / TB and Staples considers them so worthless (size wise? age? poor seller?) that they won't even keep them on the shelf.

One store had them, in stock and honored the deal.
A second store showed stock available online, but when asking to get them from the hard drive cage they were mysteriously 'out of stock,' and the associate was acting shady.
YMMV, but DC, Maryland and Virginia seek to be good to go.

No I heated them up first in the microwave. A simple google search will reveal the quality of HP drives. As a point of reference I replaced some drive from old laptops for this. It's cheap for a reason, and it has nothing to do with the capacity.

Highly likely they scan @ $6 in store.
That's what I'm thinking. Might be worth a trip.

Any way to check prices without going in-person?
Call before they get grabbed by resellers.

Just as a reminder, at least me and one other person here had these ring up at $3.23 each. That's an additional 50% off the clearance price. My receipt showed "manual override", but I didn't request anything during checkout. It appeared the cashier was given/input an extra prompt via the PoS for the additional discount?

You can make this as your OS boot drive and keep the data on another old HD.

Guy at the counter said the inventory updates once a week. Site said there was 4 in stock, he said someone else bought 9 of them a couple days ago.
