I stumbled upon these a few weeks ago and grabbed a set for my dad and I. I don't think they'll impress a chef or anyone with some serious cutlery but this is a fantastic set for $60. I paid $80 for the first set and thought they were a deal at that price so $60 is a steal. We're both very happy with them.

No, the block consists of a piece of acacia wood with a piece of acrylic on either side allowing the knives to slide between the wood and acrylic to be on display while stored.

Been at this clearance price for a while now at Costco.com, there is another similar sets at 99.97 I think, reading the comments ppl are saying the plastic show case only good for the beginning, they scratch easily and looks not so good very soon.

Seems like a really good deal if not for just the showcase block itself. Just the display retails for over $100.
Breh, I got a really nice magnetic knife block on Amazon for like $20

My comment would be if you need these knives go ahead. The brand isn't anything special, but they're perfectly good knives and for this price you can buy them and an electric sharpener for about the price of a single high-end knife.

I like that most of these knives serves a distinct purpose and it's not a bunch of cosmetic junk. Some sets for example don't make sense from a practical point of view of which knives are included. A few are redundant here, but they probably wanted that nice round number "10" and it's not taking up a ton of room anyway. This is fine. If I had no knives I would buy this.
3 knives, you only need three knives. Carving, paring, bread

"German stainless steel" from China I suspect. This is like the price of one entry level knife that is actually made in Germany.

It says on the product page. ALL the way at the end "Made in China"

Reviews are not that good. Also read some reviews on Amazon of other products of this brand, low rated. Seems like cheap Chinese knives that use the word German a lot, but are not German. What exactly is "German Stainless steel" that is made in China?

I believe the higher carbon content in better knives is better for the edge, but rust more easily. Leaving it in the dishwasher basically submerges it in a damp environment for a longish time.
