I actually double checked to see what version it is because sometimes the sellers don't actually know. I asked whether the IMEI started with 35 or 99. If it starts with 35 it's a Verizon version, if it starts with 99 it's the Google version.

They responded, "the stock we have start with 35"

So that means these are the Verizon version with a locked bootloader. For those that may not know, they can still be used on any carrier just fine. They are carrier unlocked. The bootloader however is locked. This means that you cannot install a custom ROM to keep updated when Google stops updating Android on this phone. Many people won't care about that, but people that are tech savvy and want to extend the useful life of this phone by installing newer versions of Android won't be able to.

Great for putting on CalyxOS.org to have a privacy minded phone.

EDIT: was informed later in thread that custom ROMs like CalyxOS cant be installed on Verizon variants of this phone (havent verified this but thanks to the user that called this out)

You probably had a defective phone. Yes, the memory's inadequate so apps will often have to relaunch when you multitask. Yes, the battery is bad so you need to either carry a power bank or a charger. But other than that, the phone's great.

Had this phone since launch. Think it has some mic problems since anytime I take a call without a headset no one can ever hear me. Probably just an issue with my phone in particular but otherwise it still works great. I don't do anything too intense with it and the camera still works great.

I think this model gets unlimited uploads to google photos(at lower quality). I bought an OG Pixel for that purpose.

I have a 3a and have had none of these issues at all. Have you done a system reset?

The ram management on this phone is horrible. I can't leave Pokemon go for more than five seconds without it being closed. Great phone otherwise but at two years, it's showing it's age.

Upon searching, this is about the average going price. Not a spectacular deal.

Do you have a case on it? Maybe a secondary mic port is covered, or is covered with your hand while holding.

For everyone asking about the color. It is a very light shade of pink. Hell, most would not even know just looking at it as it looks like a shade of white. They tried some humor/marketing strategy with calling the color "not pink".

My spouse has this color and I would have had no idea it was a "pink" phone. I also tend to think 90%+ of people put their phone in a case, so color is trivial at that point.

I've had this phone since it was released. This is a great price, but it's an awful phone. The RAM management is terrible. Freezes up ALL the time. Apps constantly close when you open anything else. "But the camera is great!" you might say. Yeah, but good luck getting a shot when you need it or taking more than one without it freezing up. Seriously, my original pixel still works better than my pixel 3.
As someone who have every Pixel, I can absolutely say you had a defective phone. It was your fault for sticking with something defective. However with that said - Google have the ABSOLUTE WORST customer service. You were unfortunately better off with someone defective than going thru the pain of dealing with google. (Ram management is better now with the 5, improved with the 4)

for people concerned about the color - the name is literally NOT pink. it's imo the best color for the pixel 3. unless someone really looks at it they would think it's some kind of off white.

Ah good point. I do usually have a case so that could be it.

I've had this phone for a long time too.... and while it isn't perfect... it's not as bad as you make it sound.

Software guy here. I've had to deal with using this phone for two years, as well as testing as part of work.

This is a slick price, but I cannot recommend this phone. I love Google's software in general, but the hardware on this is crap. I've seen so many defective USB ports and random display issues on test devices (which is not too abnormal, since these devices are under heavier load than normal). However, my personal phone had to be warrantied twice for two separate issues. One was motherboard-related and the other was when the phone just stopped charging entirely.

Honestly, thank you for this! I asked which variant it was, and the response I got was "what does that mean?" So I followed up with another question and I surmised that it wasn't the Verizon version. Appreciate your expertise, the SD community always comes through!
