I got the Elecjet PowerPie instead. Supports up to 45w super fast charging for Samsung devices (pps). It supports QC 3.0 and PD 3.0. It also can be charged at 45w, so it charges super fast (< 2.5 hours to full). I can charge my Macbook Air quickly even while it's being heavily used.

It's twice the price of this deal, but in my opinion, it's added speed and flexibility is totally worth the difference.

Why would anyone use the phone for 5 years? Dont most carriers frequently have promotions like "trade in x and we will give you y for free" paid over 2 years?

I get that mentality for some things, but for something most people use as much and as frequently a their cell phone, I don't follow the logic. That's where, to me, it's worth spending a bit of money so that it works well. When a phone gets that old, its connection is slower, the battery dies quickly, the processor struggles to keep up, etc. I can get 2-3 years if you buy a flagship, but beyond that, you start to loose out.

Personally, I wouldn't want a group of friends that gives a crap about what kind of phone I have, and I don't care about which phones my friends have. It's their business.

If someone wants to use a flip phone in 2021, it's their right to do so and I wouldn't give it a second thought. I don't get this whole attitude of laughing at people for what they choose to have.

Also, some people actually end up becoming very wealthy over time by investing their money instead of wasting it on things they don't necessarily need because society tells them that it's cool to have the latest gadgets.

Without knowing anything else about your friend, unless he chooses to spend his disposable income on vacations or hobbies or whatever else he's into, it sounds like he may end up retiring early and living it up while the rest of his friends are at work showing off their new phones.

True story bro. He's early 30s and already has 6 figures in his 401k. He wears clothes from 5 years ago. Yet when you buy him a drink don't expect him to return a drink. I understand being frugal especially when you're poor. But this dude makes triple my salary. But yeah meanwhile I'm still doing overtime trying to pay off my $1300 Samsung Note 20 ultra that I paid $800 for lol. To each their own. I live for the moment but I also like saving money which is why I'm on here.

That's the thing though, you're assuming that everyone uses cell phones the same way that you do.

My in-laws are absolutely loaded and they have some cheap Motorola phones that they use strictly for calls, texts, and emails.

Any phone with even an entry level CPU and 2gb of ram can handle the basics.

Unless you are in the tech industry or need access to some specialized apps, literally almost everything your phone does for you can be done via some other method.

A $300-$400 laptop can do everything that my $1000 phone can do, and more, with the exception of mobile wallets, which you can just use the actual credit cards instead.

If I was strapped for cash, a new phone would be the last thing on my mind. Also, you're playing right into what manufacturers want, which is you thinking that your phone is worthless after a few years so you'll buy a new one.

My comment was just pointing out that not everyone uses their phones for everything and that lots of people don't actually need more than an entry level phone or a 5 year old phone. I've used a couple of iPhones for 3-4 years with no problems.

That being said, the recent Samsung deals are the only reason I bought a bunch of their products after owning only Apple devices for years so I completely agree with you there. I was long overdue for a tech upgrade anyway so for me this was perfect timing.

Even with the great deals though, in general, for someone who only uses their phone for basic things, having a flagship phone is overkill.

I wouldn't be surprised if their strategy is to rope us in this year with great offers to get us on their ecosystem, just to see how many people they can get to stay on and continue trading in for new devices down the road.
