I think price mark up is due to shipping cost. I believe the kamado is more than 100 lbs. You can try to wait for clearance at end of the season. But last year...there were none left due yo covid19.

You're right, lots of other stores do these sorts of things too but it's a stupid practice though. And I feel the exact same way as the other guy, if you spend a lot of $ somewhere then you should be rewarded for you loyalty, not spit on. This is exactly why I stopped shopping at ebay. The only saving grace with this promotion is that you can chat or call to try and get a code where most of the times it's only for a select few.

I just got a coupon code through Costco chat!

The category I selected was "Costco online",
then for chat subject "other (online)".
The message I started with was the same as another poster here.
"Hi, A friend of mine recently got emailed a coupon code for "$100 off online purchases of $500 or more" and I wanted to see if my account got one that might have been accidentally deleted as spam."
After a 10 minute wait the rep came on and said she would look into it, less then a minute later she gave me a code. It was quick and easy.

Thank you to the original poster and everyone who commented with tips to help others get their own discount code 😁

Hear that. I think it's very calculated on their part though. They do the math for shareholder value and this practice necessarily makes more fiscal sense. I suspect most people will not cancel their membership over this practice & fair amt of ad tech in how it's distributed.

I managed to get codes via chat. I was skeptical it was going to work but got one code for the next each of the accounts on my membership. Took 15 minutes on hold in the chat and 2 minute from them generate codes. One verified membership details and the other didn't even do that.

I picked "Costco.com" and "credits, fees, other" as the chat options and mentioned "one of my friends got a $100 off $500 coupon and I was hoping i could get one applied to my account".

Good luck. I've got plans for both of my codes otherwise I'd share.
