Looking for best "bang for the buck" 65" Roku TV for casual use in my garage

97 29 April 23, 2021 at 04:43 PM
I spend a lot of time out in my garage and I'd like to mount a 65" (or larger) Roku TV high up on a wall for casual use, watching hockey games and UFC fights when I am working out there, maybe having a few buddies over to hang out in the garage and drink beer and watch something here and there, but nothing that needs to be top-quality picture. I'd like to stay in the $400 area but I haven't been able to find much that low myself.

Any suggestions? I rather like TCL TVs, but am unsure how to decode the model numbers on TCL Roku TV's to determine which one is better than another.

You shouldn't limit yourself to finding a TV with built-in Roku. You can get a Roku device for like $30 and it will likely be better than the built-in version

I haven't been TV shopping in years so I don't have a recommendation for best value or best picture or anything currently. I have an OLED in my living room but I doubt you want to spend that for your garage. My main intent was for you not to limit yourself to a good deal on specifically a TV with Roku built-in since that's something inexpensive and easy to add to any TV.

I think your price point is a hair too low, given current supply issues. I'd suggest a Hisense H65G at $500.

OTOH, I think you could get by just about any old panel in the garage. Just buy from a place with easy returns, because *most* real problems are going show up right away. Walmart will sell you this Spectre for under $400:

or this TCL at 446:

I've bought my share of crap panels. The ones that didn't crap out in two hours lasted >5 years.

I bought the 468 dollar Vizio from Best Buy and sent that shit righhtttt back. Decent enough image but it couldn't handle motion. So much haze and ghosting it ruined the content.

My brother has a Samsung 7 series. 600 sets the low bar. As far as bang for buck, we're getting entirely ripped off right now. Inflation is real, tv shortages are real.

Maybe Labor Day weekend.
