I bought these years ago, like 5 or 6 now. They were awful compared to my eneloops. On a full charge they'd die within hours, whereas the eneloops would last for a month or longer. It was pathetic.

Maybe they're better now, but no way I'd risk it. Was a waste of money before.
I've purchased these a few months ago. They die super quick. Both AA and AAA.
These are going to be far more economical in the long run. A minimum of 500 charge cycles means this is equal to 8,000 dollar store batteries. If you are concerned about the cost of the charge, just factor in the cost of driving back and forth to the dollar store for 8,000 batteries.

Amazons made in China. These have thousands of bad reviews. Better off getting the ikea rechargeables that are made in Japan. Lasts longer and doesn't corrode or leak.
That's always been my theory as well, but I went to IKEA and they no longer carry the batteries.

Going to try these for some less important uses (toys and remotes) and stick to eneloops for tech.

I have a few devices these batteries do not even work in unfortunately. I've used a battery tester to check levels and they are full, but still provide no power. I pop in a energizer rechargeable and devices work fine.
Whenever I run into this problem it's usually because the device requires a 1.5 volt battery, while most rechargeables are 1.2v

Unless you really love the earth, 20.00 can get you 120 AA batteries at the Dollar Store - this is the real Slickdeal.
You must hate your own wallet. You will be getting 120 AA batteries that all expire in 1 month. Basically throwing all of them away. LMAO

I have 'crappy' Tenergy rechargeable batteries that will hold much better that these amazon basics, but good luck!

My ikea doesn't have batteries anymore. They're website shows batteries as "last chance" so either getting new type or not carrying batteries anymore

There is a bit of variation here. I have gotten some in the past that are great, but it all depends on which ones you get. It seems the black top ones (likely what you got) are Chinese made and the worst, but the white top variety seem to be Japanese made rebranded eneloops. How to know which you are getting? No clue.

Mine have a black top, green band beneath, then the rest of the battery is black. I've thrown most away, but a few have survived. Occasionally I'll test them out again, and they're still awful.

Yeah, sounds like you got the Chinese ones, unfortunately. The product image currently shows the Japanese white top variety, but that's no guarantee for what you'll get.

General point being it's not a given you will get crap batteries, but if you can afford it you probably want to avoid the risk and buy some legit eneloops.

Good deal, in for 1. With the kiddo getting a lot of battery toys, these are great to have in rotation. I did run into an issue where the top of the battery would not create a connection on one device, so it would not work. Not sure why they are shorter than the standard. Either way, worth it for us!

See a lot of reviews point to Eneloop as the go-to brand -- is that the case for rechargeables these days?
I believe Eneloop and all other "Made in Japan" NiMH rechargeables are made in the same Japanese factory, and yes, these are often considered the "go-to" batteries. As far as I know, Ikea's batteries are still among these, and are reasonably priced.

I've had some Made-in-China rechargeables (Rayovac, Harbor Freight, generic) over the years and some of the cells are ok still, but some quickly lost the ability to hold much of a charge, even after using the "refresh" cycle on my fancy BT-C3100 charger LINK [amazon.com]. So I stick with Made in Japan cells.

Amazon Basics used to include some that were "Made In Japan," (I have some such AAAs), but I think nowadays they're sourced entirely from China, but I could be wrong.

Also there are Youtube videos showing new Chinese batteries performing as well as new Japanese example [youtube.com], but a video like this doesn't take into account a cell's lifespan (how well the cell holds up over repeated cycles) nor its self-discharge rate, which is important in many applications. IMO quality control in China is less than in Japan, generally speaking. But I'd think the Chinese factories improve as time goes on and my ramblings may be becoming outdated. Just food for thought.

Depends. On something like a Nest, the manual specifically states to use lithium batteries and NOT rechargeable or alkaline ones. I also know the conventional alarms like the First Alert ones recommend not to use rechargeable batteries.
