Yes indeedy, and that's kind of the problem - polyester is "moisture-wicking" but not breathable - it wicks moisture away from itself, but not your body. It's really good for a trip to the gym or something like that where you can immediately change out of it after, because it won't absorb the sweat like cotton would, so it doesn't get ruined. But longer than an hour of some vigorous activity and you're basically sitting in your own sweat.
As far as socks go, any kind of moisture-wicking socks will just leave you with stinky feet. IMO you're better off with some cotton athletic socks and letting your shoes dry out well. If you want something that breathes *and* keeps you dry - like for hiking or winter activities - stick to high quality wool. The SmartWool brand or Duluth Trading Company offerings are pretty good options.

I've never seen pound salt socks
Merino socks are brutally expensive (Darn Tough, Smartwool) but the comfort and breathability is unmatched. A lot of brands make knock-off breathable socks, including Columbia, but if isn't merino, it's just marketing.
They use USPS to ship so they obviously over charging for shipping, 4 socks isn't over 1 pound, even if it was, they can stick it in a flat rate envelope ship it Priority for less than $7.
Hate it when companies over charge to ship. I sell on eBay and offer free shipping, use it as an expense and deduct it at the end of the year.. Doubt I make anywhere near what Kohls makes off online sales, especially w/ their $75 free ship limit. That's the highest I've ever seen, Macy's is only $25. Greedy m#$!@%!
