Sorry, but there was never a similar I5 for $300 during BF.

The 11th Gen WERE shipping during BF, but the deals were only on the 10th Gen.
Huge Generational Difference.

The SCREEN on this laptop is actually a quality screen in both NITS and Resolution.
The BF deals did not have this quality screen....

The BUILD Quality for the mid-tier laptops, this is a high-quality build with better chassis, keyboard, trackpad, etc.. etc....

The SSDs were smaller on bottom-tier....

And no....In General, there were not any long-standing deals for any i5s at $300. Perhaps a 5-minute deal, but those were the older i3s....Any i5 deal that was not OOS in under 5minutes for the i5 was closer to $350.

And if you are lucky to have the AMEX deal, then this is only $420....
Blowing away even BF deals if you have the AMEX deal.

No, it is not high at all and in fact one of the cheapest price. And What is that idiotic logic of paying over $500 for a 14 incher? You know, there are 14 incher costing $2000 as well. The Price of a Laptop is not just decided by the Screen size.

I don't find the backlight and color of the keys to be an issue because I only use the backlight at night, and it's not hard to read then. During the day I have it off. You probably shouldn't have to do that though.

Anyone have this model and can comment on build quality? I have an inspiron from 5 years ago that was all plastic construction and physically is falling apart

Are you saying that in real life the keyboard is easier to read than it looks in the pic?

At night would be fine I'm sure, but my concern is in a brightly lit office. Seems to me that even with the backlight off, the white on silver renders the keyboard nearly invisible.

Would you mind providing a link to Dell's site where they sell this memory? I saw a compatible 8GB SODIMM on their site for around $100 iirc, so this would be much cheaper.

I bought this the last time it was FP. See my comments in that thread as well (the last one). The only complain I have about this laptop is that the right click area on track pad is horrible. I thought I could live with it but I am not able to. It feels very cheap and plastiky and makes a horrible cracking sound when I right click ....everytime.

I have had my share of "cheap" laptop (1 or 2) in the past, but this track pad is very annoying when I right click. I have high tolerance and don't complaint often of things are not up the mark, but this right click noise on the track pad is annoying AF to hear AND use.

I don't think the keys are hard to see during the day with the backlight off at all. With it off it's silver keys with dark gray/black looking letters. Once you turn on the backlight it's much harder to see but only during the day. At night they're also not hard to see (with the backlight on).

I myself never use the track pad. I hate them. I just plug in a wireless mouse.

Oh. So in the pic it looks invisible because it's with the backlight on in a brightly lit environment? And if they shut it off ... It would appear as gray characters on a silver background?
