You activated to earn 5% Cashback Bonus at Restaurants and PayPal from 7/1/21 (or the date on which you activate 5%, whichever is later) through 9/30/21, on up to $1,500 in purchases. Restaurant purchases include only those made at merchants classified as full-service restaurants, cafes, cafeterias and fast food locations. PayPal qualifying purchases are those made through the PayPal wallet online, when you send money to Friends and Family via PayPal using your Discover Card, and point-of-sale transactions using PayPal Here. Payments made through the Xoom transfer service are not eligible for 5%. Any restaurant purchase made using PayPal will only be awarded a total of 5% Cashback Bonus. PayPal, the PayPal logo are trademarks of PayPal or its Affiliates. Listed merchants are in no way sponsoring or affiliated with this program. Certain digital wallet transactions qualify for 5%, for more information see Discover.com/digitalwallets. Purchases made through third-party payment accounts, mobile or wireless card readers, virtual wallets or similar technology will not be eligible if the technology does not provide sufficient transaction details for rewards qualification. 5% Cashback Categories: In accordance with standard industry practices, merchants are assigned a merchant category code (MCC) typically based on their line of business, or the type of products and/or services they primarily sell or provide. Discover Card does not assign MCCs to merchants. Even if you make purchases at a merchant of items that appear to fit in a rewards category, the merchant may not have an assigned MCC in that rewards category. Only purchases made from merchants located in the United States are eligible for 5% Cashback Bonus. In order for a purchase to qualify for the 5% Cashback Bonus Program, the transaction date must be before or on the last day of the offer or promotion. For online purchases, the transaction date from the merchant may be the date when the item ships. We may add additional categories within a quarter that may also require enrollment. Rewards are added to your Cashback Bonus account within two billing periods. See Cashback Bonus Program Terms and Conditions for more information about your rewards.
You can pay your federal taxes ahead of time using PayPal via Discover. Not a full 5% gain after factoring the fee but is a good way of maximizing the limit
Yup, that's what I do with mine. Chase Freedom also tends to do the same PayPal promo in a different quarter. It's basically getting cashback on $1500 of your federal taxes. I have the Discover, and two Chase Freedoms (regular and flex), so it's cashback on $4500 of my federal taxes. Even with the 2% fee, it's still ~3% cashback, or $45 for every $1500.
I don't see the problem of credit card companies activating these promotions automatically.
It's a simple task the way Discover sets it up, but if customers fail to activate and/or aren't aware of it then Discover saves money and still gets sales. Those who "activate" it tend to take Discover out of the sock drawer and spend more on these common categories (and Discover hopes elsewhere).
Bonus starts July 1. eBay purchases will count, but you have to purchase through PayPal. PayPal and eBay are seperate companies now and paying Discover as a "credit card payment" (not paypal) won't give you the bonus.
Since when credit card quarterly cash back is worth posting??? Everyone who has it will be automatically notified via email etc.
i agree with you but SD users are...weird for lack of better words
This has been listed in everyone's dashboard since January
And this is merely a HU and should be titled as such and not posted in "hot deals" 60 days in advance
I'm thinking all the TU are either trolling to make SD look retarded or a SD shill
