Have to be a member, I just printed out the form, with what I wanted, no haggle,1100 below invoice. I bought a toyota avalon 11.1% below msrp in these times some high level edition vehicles are excluded, like trd packages on camry and 4runner. If need extended warranty you can shop around, New Hampshire has some dealers with no taxes too.
40,731 msrp nightshade edition was 36,271
I was a top sales and leasing associate back in 1992 during the gulf war and recession, max back then was 11% so I felt good getting value. Once I had this deal with a deposit other places were beating it by 400ish I decided since 5 minutes away just stick with it.

There is a point of diminishing returns, but I'd argue it's worth the effort of seeing what you can get after a couple rounds of emails. You do it at your pace and it doesn't take tons of time in my experience. You might end up in the same place as going through Costco, but you get piece of mind.
Agreed. If you can get the price down another 500-1000 bucks for an hour of effort, then it would be worth it. The Costco program gives you a great starting point though.

I think around here with a big metroplex you could always just drive down to another city to possibly look. Most these days (shocking i know) will not give out a price over email. They want you to physically walk in. Yes there seems to be cases of both if you get the right sales person or if the dealership deals a lot with internet sales but they know they're losing money on the table. With supply currently, they would rather hold on to that one buyer than sell you a car for the bottom price. It sucks.

Even within costco, the acura dealership I bought the car from freely emailed me a line item invoice. I tried to do the same with a nissan altima my dad wanted through costco and they gave me the run around with "we can't send prices over email" and I called BS because others did it.

If it's worth it to you, sure. I honestly was good with the price and walked in, walked out with a car.

Serious question: is there a promo going on, or is this just a general post about the auto buying program that Costco has been running for the last 10+ years?

I've tried out the Costco program. It's probably the best car buying service, but I always got a better deal negotiating with dealers over email and pitting them against one another. That's the approach you see recommended most often on SD.

Can you help me by providing the link for this discussion. It will be much appreciated. If you can guide me that will work too

Tried this when I was looking for a new RAV4 last year. Ended up going with a dealer using an advertised price I got through True Car. It was $3,000 lower than the only dealer in my area (SF Bay Area) that used Costco Auto Program. So the price here isn't always the lowest. Do your research.

Yep, there are still a lot of slimy dealers who refuse to give you a number over email, so you can't shop it around and feel forced to enter the lion's den (dealership) so they can put the screws to you. Some even won't publish prices on their website. That's a huge red flag. I'm not sure how much Costco vets dealers. Not a lot, from my impression.
