Just received the saw that I got from the $300 (misprint?) deal from a couple weeks ago.
The saw is really nice, completely "nuts on" accurate without me having to adjust anything.

Really, the only flaw with the 8 1/4 type saws like this, is that you can't do Dado cuts with it.
For me, it isn't such a big deal, as I can do Dados with my router.
But it definitely is something to be aware of.

Seems to be the same one. 8 1/4in, model 7485WS. I agree, still a great deal as it includes the stand. Not sure if you'll see $299 again for a while.

If you are in the Midwest you can still get the saw without the stand from Blaines Farm and Fleet for $299.

I'd say the real major flaw with the 8-1/4" saws is not being able to cut any 3"+ material at 90 degrees and barely being able to cut 2" material at 45 degrees.

I too can live without dado as a guide and router works well.

Sorry if this is a stupid question but why can't you do dado cuts with an 8 1/4" blade?

I think that's a limitation of this model

Dewalt just generally says you can't on this sort of saw. They said the same when they used to do 10 inch. They probably don't make a throat plate for it. My other brand 10 inch has no problem with a 1/2 inch stack.

It is not the blade diameter, as both the 8-1/4" and 10" saw has a 5/8" arbor, but rather it is the length of the arbor shaft on this saw is shorter. Some claim it will accept up to 1/2" of stacked blades, that is believable, but not many threads left to tighten and needs to be personally verified.

Question is, why would you buy an 8-1/4" saw that is limited for everything but power. The 10" saws cut thicker materials, have same power, but with same rotation speeds, there are more teeth cutting per rotation and blades are typically cheaper with a wide variety available most anywhere..

In this case, DeWalt is just too expensive, whereas, a saw like the 10" Ridgid [homedepot.com] is just as cheap at regular price, does more and with the LSI, a lifetime service agreement. If on a budget, at $189 I would have to take a look at the Ryobi [homedepot.com] in person. Either and other models may very well come on sale at sites like Direct Tools [directtoolsoutlet.com] that we see on here often enough.

Just bought this at $299 with stand. It's a really good saw. Mine needed a small amount of adjustment to the blade to get it to 90 degrees but it only took a second. Very impressed with the quality overall.

Good points. I believe that the rotation speed of the 8 1/4" Dewalt is actually higher than their 10" models. Someone commented under the $299 deal from several weeks ago that 10" table saws in the smaller jobsite form without stand are on their way out because of some new rules manufacturers have to abide by dealing with square inches of space to blade size. Dunno if this is true but you will see 10" saws being cleared out at places like Harbor Freight so there may be some truth to it.

So how does it compare to this Ridgid (https://www.homedepot.com/p/RIDGID-15-Amp-10-in-Table-Saw-with-Folding-Stand-R4518/309413142?MERCH=R... [homedepot.com])
same price, but dewalt has better reviews and is 8 1/4 vs Ridgid 10. I doubt I will have to do any 4" rips, so 8 1/4 doesn't bother me.

You are correct, the OP saw does wind up a little faster than most others.... 5800 rpm with the same 15 amps almost compensates for less teeth per revolution with say, the Ridgid 10" with 5,000 rpm. There is a variable, where you could buy a smaller blade with more teeth than normally used with a larger blade and the OP saw would then outperform that 10".

Not sure about size of table to blade rules changing, but the 10" Ridgid with stand is a bit larger table. There are pros and cons to the Ridgid LSI, otherwise the Lifetime Service Agreement that is basically a lifetime warranty... but a lot of people are quite happy they have had it as the price of these tools continue to increase. Not so long ago, you could buy a portable 10" direct drive table saw with stand for less than $150, even $100 for off brands that got the job done for the homeowner/hobbyist.

We have one radial 8-1/4" saw that because of lack of availability locally, I typically buy blades from Amazon, but depending on material thickness, can also use a cheaper 5/8" arbor, 7-1/4" blade that can be found most anywhere on this table saw.... just maybe go a little slower with some varieties of wood, or buy a blade with more teeth than normally used with the 8-1/4" for similar results.
