If you want to game, it's better to spend the extra $50 on the $600 HP that Walmart has.
https://www.walmart.com/ip/HP-Pav.../943933730

They are a Ryzen 3500 (6-core) with a GTS 1650 Super. A 1650 Super is roughly twice the graphical performance of a 5700G.

It looks like Walmart's website sells out of these very quickly and only 3rd party sellers are listed there. But if you can find them at your local store they are sold for $599.

This is why it's called a desktop.

Tell your mom to stay off the porn sites, they're known to have malware.

That sucks was thinking of moving it to a better case to add a gpu if necessary
You can get a 500 watt PSU upgrade from HP made for this chassis, but it's expensive: https://parts.hp.com/hpparts/Sear...L05757-800

USB Type C can probably not be used for Type C to HDMI for a second monitor.

People that are saying "this isn't good for gaming" gotta dial it back cuz you clearly don't know what you're saying, this is a heck of a deal right here specially since gpu prices are spiked up. Look at the benchmarks! Go on YouTube, Google search, etc and look at the amazing performance this APU offers. If you're just getting into the pc market this is a great starter machine and you can improve it down the line with a good ol gpu after the prices go down (and maybe some better ram which should be around 100 bucks if you wanna hold out on the gpu a little longer) I've seen some benchmarks in quite a few games from different people and I can say with confidence you'll be happy with almost any game you can play, forget about just playing the sims and pokemon yellow.

Annihilates the i5 in every aspect .
on second thought.... this HP computer is originally $699.

is it faster or slower than the Apple Mac Mini M1, which is also $699.

(for example, encoding a 37-minute 4k video... which is faster?)

Yes, I know it's comparing apples with oranges, but just wondering....

Thanks!

If I could put a GTX 970 that I have in there, I might go for it. I doubt it though.

16 GB single channel is fine. Easy upgrade to 32 GB.
Some POS mfg only put ONE dimm slot on boards.. I saw one of these at Costco.. dont remember the model.

Hmmmm , this 5700g is very close in performance to the m1 . M1 may give better results due to mac os optimization .
If either windows or mac is not a problem for you Maybe look on what matters like upgradability in ram and ssd which I don't think the mac mini has .
Also , if you really want to , in the future, you can swap the cpu itself or put a gpu in there .

That's about it , look at what you value most and go for it .
edit: just checked the m1 is similar in performance to the mobile 5700u so the 5750g should be better in performance but keep in mind that adobe softwares still being optimized for the new ryzen cpu/apu ,so although the 5700g have highr thread count and clock speed it might give lower performance in these softwares .
that should be solved in the upcoming adobe updates .
