EDIT: now I see it...

Ryobi has not been open about the batteries and that makes them more money when someone buys HP batteries that don't help on a brushless tool that's not designed with them in mind. Even youtube breakdowns have misinformation in them but what this person says at the time stamp is sort of right https://youtu.be/XtS243UT00s?t=2
Ryobi is eliminating the 'HP' batteries and going to 'High Performance' batteries. Looking at the High Performance batteries everywhere you cannot find a picture of the rear of the battery to confirm it has the clips. https://www.homedepot.com/p/RYOBI-ONE-18V-HIGH-PERFORMANCE-Lithium-Ion-4-0-Ah-Battery-PBP004/3150394... [homedepot.com] Same goes for the HP Batteries actually. Almost like they don't want to tell you what's going on. As far as Everyone who tried to figure it out the clips just complete a circuit on the battery and then the battery outputs more power. If you checked your HP tool the rear clip does not actual connect to any part of the power delivery system on the tool, it's just in the plastic.
If none of that makes you think and wonder then you just need to go back and watch the release promo for the Ryobi HP Brushless line. Every 18V brushless tool in the promo uses a 1.5AH Lithium (no hp, or high performance) battery. If you want to impress your audience why not go to the HP or High Performance batteries? they were showing how much more they could do then the competition on similar gear, get that 30% extra and blow them out of the water right? Here are some news articles showing the pictures from the promo and Ryobi's site, none are using HP Batteries. https://www.protoolrevi
At the end of the day someone really should do a project farm type comparison on this so we get to the bottom of it. The misinformation is no good and Ryobi has made nothing clear. Since you literally have no standard batteries you can't do your own check. You just trust the tool is pulling 30% more power. I also have a rock that keeps Tigers away if you want to buy it. I guarantee in the next 5 years Ryobi stops making claims their brushless tools pull more power when using a different type of battery and the clips will completely go away.
So yeah that's why I said people get hung up on brushless too much. Just go off the specs of the tool and the actual real world performance. The main selling point about Ryobi is you can use any of their batteries in any of their tools. This whole more power with specific batteries and brushless is hurting them with their target customers at the end of the day. Maybe that's why they only used 1.5AH lithium batteries in the promo. They hope to show you don't need specific batteries for specific Ryobi tools and everything works just 'optimally'.
