They probably didn't have the correct settings
I received my 77A80j this past weekend. It is pretty amazing and I highly recommend it. Have a 65c8 for comparison and its colors and depth are just something else. Specular highlights and cable sports are amazing. Going to test out PS5 more and other sources after I have more time, but reviewers across the board opine that it is brighter than C1 when compared side by side despite early nit measurements. If you are a hardcore gamer and game on PC or Xbox series X go get the C1 for 4k120 HDR VRR. There is still no VRR on the A80j with Sony promising an update. The Mediatek chip SOC may be the issue, but hopeful Sony can pull it off. However, it works really well right now with PS5 with autodetect game mode. Tech with KG also showed that it excels over C1 with respect to SDR gaming.

Since this is slickdeals, this is the best bang for your buck 2021 oled right now for size and specs. If you dont need a slickdeal ball out for the 83 A90J which is king of 2021. However, A80j also has the newer 2021 LG panel. I believe all North America 2021 oleds (apart from some C1 outliers?) have this newer panel which is ~20% more power efficient, brighter, and likely to be even better against potential burn in.

I have had the LG C8 for 3 years now with no signs of burn in and I have been blasting this TV on HDR and using it as a normal TV.
the default settings have the motion smoothing (I forget the actual name of it, truemotion or something like that) on by default. Motion on my OLED was awful at first until I turned it off. I don't notice any difference now vs. my Pioneer plasma.

600Hz was a marketing term. Plasmas create 10 images flashed on the screen that get combined to create one. There is no motion in those images. A new image, which is what motion would be, is created at 60Hz. Since refresh rate started to become a selling point, and technically plasma created a new image at 600Hz that is what they used. Yet it was in no way what we think of today. You can't play a video at 600Hz on a plasma and actually get that refresh rate.

I went in to BB Sunday to take a look at this model, but coming from plasma the motion blur was hard to unsee.
anyone else with a Sony OLED that came from a plasma figure out settings to make the motion blur not an issue?

You aren't going to get something with 600hz anymore like a plasma, so anything will seem to have motion blur. However, Sony > LG at OLED motion processing so I agree with the other poster that if you significantly noticed the motion blur they probably were not using the dejudder settings appropriately.

Saw one last week. Looks really good. Costco started selling Sony oled as well but so far only have the 65 inch model for 2499. IMO

yea, it's just figuring out what those settings should be without staying there for 2hrs. $3,500 is a lot to spend for a TV that may make me wish I still had my plasma.

Have any reputable reviewers reviewed these yet? Didn't see anything on rtings or quick YouTube search. Do we know how it compares to a90j? Sucks they didn't make an a90j in 77".

Rtings usually provides very helpful setting recommendations to help with calibration and understanding the smooth motion settings. I can usually calibrate my new TVs within 10 min. My only problem is they like them darker and more yellow and less blue than I do, so I just tweak the calibration settings at the margins.

the A90j is basically the same panel with a heatsink so I'd be surprised if they look noticably different.

Do you have a Magnolia Best Buy near you? I think they would be more motivated to have the correct settings.

that's what I went to, they had the 65" A90J which had the issue. wandering around I saw the A80J 77" in the regular store tv area (connected to one of those touch interface panels with demo material). I was shocked that the demo material showed off the judder so much.

I'll go back after looking into rtings settings and ask a salesperson for the remote control, and maybe if they'll plug in a UHD player and cable feed for me (play dumb, worth asking 😆).
