Best to not have a phone if you worry a lot about this sort of thing.

I just checked the access permissions on the Google Play store and there's nothing about contacts or call history. You can verify this stuff yourself, you know.

I'm really happy with mine, this has been the normal low price for them, and the coupon code worked. Don't understand the two thumbs down.

I bought it a year ago and amazingly 3 of the 4 probes went bad after just a couple uses. I had them warranty replaced, and 2 of the replacements went bad as well. I can't believe the failure rate of the probes, and I'm super careful when cleaning and storing them. I wouldn't recommend this product for that reason - which is disappointing because the device itself is well built
All mine still work after a year of use. I don't get the wires wet, only washing the probe ends, & I roll wires up without force, they have somewhat of one way they'll roll without any force.

For weber propane grill, which is iGrill compatible would you recommend this or Igrill?
Also will this work with grill cover closed?

Ordered from this thread today and received it. All the app requests on android is location. There is no contacts, photos, or other permissions that others in the thread have implied. You do have to connect to your wifi but not sure how you would use a wifi thermometer without connecting to wifi.

The iGrill (which I had) is bluetooth. WiFi is better.
When I had the Weber, I would run probe wires through the opening for the rotisserie.

My friend, who I look to advice for all things bbq, said this generally favors well on his BBQ forums. You still need a controller to regulate the pit, but I already have one of those. This will give me multiple probes to validate the pit and meat, and let me monitor it from a distance, where my controller does not provide wifi or bluetooth access. For $50, and so many positive reviews on Amazon, I will try it out for a backup device.
I got one of these for my dad(different model, same brand) and he absolutely loves it. Apparently he uses a smart outlet to turn his smoker on and off remotely so he can regulate it somewhat like that.

Not saying that's not good for what it is, but the reason this one is a great deal at $50 is because it has wifi.

I got one of these last fall on a slick deal and I love love love it! I used it yesterday for brisket and they had updated the software so I had to reinstall the device which was annoying, but I highly recommend this thing. 👍

Very enticing, but the app reviews on all of the InkBird apps look absolutely horrible. Lots of people complaining of issues that still haven't been resolved in over a year. Reviews saying the alarms are very unreliable in the app.
I'm not sure how you can reliably smoke food without alarms.
The BBQ 4t app is the one I use for this

Maybe I missed the answer, but with this WiFi model, it talks to the cloud, I read. Can you wander away from your local WiFi and still receive temperature updates and alarms via the cloud? That's my biggest beef with my BT version of this.
