192-Piece DeWALT Mechanics Tool Set (Standard / SAE & Metric Combination). Got 2 in Nov for myself and oldest son & it is amazing. If it comes back around, I'll be extremely tempted to buy for the 2 younger kids.

Any thoughts on this vs the 243 p craftsman set from a few weeks back/. Seems like this one doesn't have universal adapters, less sockets overall but has a case.
I bought both and was trying to decide which to keep. From asking around this is what I found:

DeWalt:
+ 1/2" drive sockets are 6-point
+ Has both SAE and metric nut drivers
+ Comes with a case
- Only has shallow sockets (no deep sockets) for 1/2" drive
- No universal joint
- Less overall sockets

Craftsman:
+ Has both standard and deep 1/2" drive sockets
+ More overall sockets/wrenches/bits
- 1/2" drive sockets are 12-point
- Only has metric (... or was it SAE?) nut drivers
- No case, the pieces come in plastic trays

When asking around some people say they'd rather have 6-point, others prefer having deep sockets. Both have lifetime warranties, I think it might be more convenient to get replacements at Lowe's, but one person I asked said his Lowe's would only give store credit instead of an actual replacement. Regardless of which you choose you'll have to buy pieces to fill in their "weaknesses". Ultimately I went with the DeWalt set since it had a case and my life is mess that needs all the organizing it can get.

Being able to warranty at Lowe's sounded better, but one person I asked said in his experience he was only able to get store credit/GC instead of an actual replacement part, so YMMV. Ultimately I went with the DeWalt set since it had a case and my life is mess that needs all the organizing it can get.

Does not have button in the middle of the ratchet for quick release of sockets...... Overall a good set that is missing this crucial feature.

The 192 piece includes 1/4, 3/8, and 1/2 inch universal joints as well as 1/2 to 3/8 reducer and a 3/8 to 1/4 reducer. Additionally some of the extra bits are made on sockets. The 192-Piece (DWMT75049) is the better set.

Only my cheap ratchets have that "feature", none of my higher quality ones do. I personally wouldn't consider it as important.

I agree with others who posted that the Dewalt 192 pc DWMT75049 kit is the one to wait for if you are looking for the maximum amount of ratchets, sockets, extensions and related pieces without too many filler bits or even wrenches.

If you are looking for a do it all kit with wrenches, this is a good deal for those who don't want to buy another wrench set separately.

I bought the 192 pc set from the SD Fleet Farm deal in November for $89 and it is a steal. Looking back after using these I would have paid $130+.
This link is for reference only at full price...

The ratchets don't feel like the very few Snap on ones I have (I'm not made of $$$), but they are still very good and don't ring my cheap tool alarm so I am very happy to get a complete set for a SMALL fraction of the cost of the boutique brands.

It has 17 Hex and Torx bits in 3/8" drive which I do not consider filler, but don't consider part of a socket set.

The 2 sets of 14 each metric and standard hex key sets I could have done without, but this still left me with what I consider a 164 piece no filler socket set and that is a great deal.

It's all sockets with no wrenches and little screwdriver bits so it's got a higher useful piece count. Most of us already have enough little bits to last a lifetime. Nothing wrong with 205 piece though it's got most of the important stuff. I'd probably still buy it at this price if I needed sockets.
Agreed! I just want the sockets. Are they any other sets that just sells sockets and no wrenches or bits?
