Most of the time I would be happy as a tech geek can get, owning almost every Tivo since they started up Tivo, but tivo OS and performance sucks now. My understanding from friends that worked at Tivo, it's kinda like old school Sears with a system in place that never updates and is just waiting to slip under the water and sink to the bottom. They should have been revamping the blood in the company more so the managers and exec staff ect... Sad to see them fading away like this when they used to have such a great product. Add them to the list like Fry's..

That's because they were bought by Xperi which is primarily a patent licensing company. Unlike Tivo's previous owners, they have no interest in developing and innovating the existing product line. They are mainly focused on licensing the IP they acquired to cable companies and TV manufacturers to do what they want with.

Tivo DVRs are pretty much static products now. They work but don't hold your breath for further upgrades.

Tivo is almost dead, The DVRs are practically dead, their new Tivo stream 4k is also a dead end.

There is no future with Tivo.

Great deal. My TiVo Roamio OTA is still hanging on after 6 years and works fine (replaced HD early on and cooling fan replaced a few times now just for noise). I hate they now have their own TiVo ads before many recoded shows, but can't complain much for something that comes out to about $4/month!

Edit: Thank you @rxmoss and others for informing me I can have the ads removed!

Love my TiVo, since 2002. Have owned three units. On a Roamio now. Still on the old interface.

I think you can get rid of the pre-roll ads in one of two ways: (1) Call them and opt out, or (2) downgrade the software to the non-voice software.

Keep in mind that the Bolt OTA cannot be downgraded so if you want to run the older non-voice software, you have to get one that can work with cable or cable/antenna.

Just chat with tivo customer service and say they ads are making the device crash. They got rid of the ads for me. It actually also makes the tivo run faster.

I'll have to give those a try. Thanks!

Never again. I had a refurbished Bolt that was about 1.5 years old and started dying. Would randomly freeze up, wouldn't load program guide, etc. I tried everything including replacing the hard drive. Contacted TIVO and they were useless. Wouldn't bother sending me another unit or anything. fark this company, they deserve to go bankrupt.

I recommend picking up the 3 years warranty for $80. If your out of warranty Bolt dies Tivo may offer you an refurbished Edge for an extra $150 if you're lucky. Bolts have a high failure rate compared to other Tivo DVRs.
