Being a 300lb man (at times up to 365lb), I have learned to buy the FIRMEST, MOST EXPENSIVE mattress you can tolerate and afford. Yes, at first they feel like you're sleeping on a granite slab, but add a good 2 inch memory foam layer and they are pretty comfortable - PLUS YOUR BACK WILL THANK YOU! The heavier you are, the faster your body will compress a mattress. Having a good quality, very firm mattress will slow this process down considerably. Just my personal experience.

At first you will probably HATE your very firm mattress, over a few months as it softens up a bit, you will wonder why you ever bought a soft saggy mattress!

It's very difficult to research mattresses because the industry sells the same mattress under different names at various retailers. But if you compare the number of coils, the composition and thickness of the various layers, you can usually figure out competing products at different retailers, then just buy from the lowest price. I like us-mattress.com because they give comprehensive info about relative firmness, coils, layers, total weight, user reviews, etc., about their products. You can use this as a starting point to compare similar mattresses at other retailers by trying to match up some of the info. It's not always perfect, but it's the best way I have found to make an informed decision, in an industry that doesn't want consumers making informed decisions.

This stuff isn't worth anywhere near the claimed "worth" prices.

(Not speaking about this specific mattress) I always found that whole notion "you get what you pay" kind of crazy. What if I got something on sale does the quality drop since I paid less compared to someone who paid the full price. What if I bought a sh*tty over priced product would I still "get what I paid for". Measuring quality by price is absolute lunacy specially if you are a savvy buyer who is always looking for a deal.

This is so true. Although, I'm not making weight comparisons, both my wife and I have been sleeping on the carpet with minimal bedding (fleece comforter etc) and our back pain is mostly gone (no other changes to lifestyle). So, get the hardest mattress as suggested here.

i've heard those comments about firm mattresses on the net and from the salesperson. tested a firm mattress and thought it was ok (bad idea to wear my jacket). then when it was in my home, it was terrible. i couldn't adjust. had to find some kind of solution going from one topper to another. no, i'm not 300 or even 200lbs but if you're used to plush or pillow top, firm is not the way to go. i wish i had chosen either of those instead though likely plush since my last luxorious pillow top had caved in.

Oh, I'm painfully aware (literally) what my weight is doing to my body. I have a number of health problems and nearly all of them are directly related to my obesity. I was a normal weight for most of my life, and due to some mental health problems my weight has ballooned for the past 15 years (I'm 56). Weight loss and exercise is pretty much my obsession now - I am committed to getting my weight down to 200lb. Applause

NO, I don't advise a very firm mattress for a normal weight person. I don't think they have enough "cushion" to handle the firmness. My recommendation was based on increasing mattress life for bigger folks like me.

This mattress comes with a 10yr warranty. And believe it or not, they will honor that warranty for things like "Mattress has lost form" or "no longer bouncy", if that's the case. We just did this with a 1yr old pillow top that had indents where we sleep. Warranty process was a breeze...after someone came to check it out we were told how much of a credit we now had to spend on whatever we wanted at the store.

Just figured I'd share this experience cause I had assumed the process would be awful and it was actual a breeze!
i had the same issue with an expensive springair pillowtop mattress. so soft but my back was aching on it about a couple years in and left with a big crater on the mattress. i received a full credit at macy's for the mattress.

I have often thought the same thing. However
"What if I got something on sale" is also nothing to bank on. Sales are often gimmicks, chickanery and mirages. Would you agree thay one must pay a premium for quality and since a good night's sleep is imperative to good health, "buyer beware" is an enduring piece of advice?

So you're both back sleepers? I couldn't imagine sleeping on an extra firm as a side sleeper. This person you quoted never made mention of how they sleep.
I too was once 300 pounds and an extra firm mattress or sleeping on the floor would've made my chiropractor happy from the added appointments.

I like a soft fluffy plush bed to fall into, but my back hurts when I get up. I mostly sleep on my sides, but I turn over on my back when my sides start hurting. What do I do?
Get a firm mattress and a 3 inch topper.

All size mattresses of this model appear to include the base for free. I purchased the Twin XL for $389. https://www.macys.com/shop/produc...D=12043912

Note too, if your purchase is over $790 (I think), free white glove delivery is included. I was able to get two bases free online by purchasing 1 queen and 1 twin xl. But when I tried adding two of the same bed, it would only add one adjustable base to the cart. I called customer service and was able to buy 3 Twin XLs in one order and each will come with their own base - plus white glove delivery.

I'm pretty sure I have these same bases from Mattress Firm's free adjustable base deals. They work fine. No frills. I generally only want to lift my head anyway. Even when I don't use the lift, the base provides a nice solid surface for the mattress without worry of slats busting. For $400 for a mattress and base, can't go wrong. Using them for an airbnb, so hopefully they are good enough for a few nights sleep at a time.
All sizes? I'm seeing free box spring on some of the others. I'd probably grab the full size if it came with the base.

Sorry, didn't check full. King and Twin xl had the base deal last I checked. Took a bit of searching to find them.

Alternate between left side and back. Not in my control. We are sound sleepers. So, can't speak for my wife.
