Rogue has a dumbbell sale that appears to be 30-50% off DB pairs. Not the most amazing deal ever but these don't go on sale too often and are decent prices for new rubber DBs.
Adjustable dumbells are for people that don't really lift.
Huh? How does that even remotely follow from owning adjustable dumbbells. By your rationale, 2 people, 1 person owns a set of 50 lb dumbbells, another person owns a set of adjustable dumbbells that go from 5-50 lbs, we'll say. According to you, by virtue of simply owning the adjustable dumbbells that person doesn't really lift even if they use them every day. ; if the other person who just owns the 50 lb dumbbells never even picks them up at all, that person is considered a lifter, just in virtue of owning 50 lb dumbbells?

No, the obvious implication is that for a great variety of exercises a novice adult male will quickly eclipse 50 lbs in each hand within a few months. Weights that light are typically used for smaller auxiliary work as a compliment to the main lifts, so if you're at all serious about fitness let alone lifting you're almost certainly better off doing bodyweight stuff like dips and pull ups than you are with adjustable dumbbells

I see what you're saying here, and I have to agree simply due to the size to weight ratio. If I'm going to toss around weights under 30 lbs, then I'm probably going to want some room for wrist mobility, which is impossible with those giant adjustable weights.

2x pro bodybuilder, 2x winning powerlifter, and powerlifting federation co-founder chiming in (thats me): Owning adjustable dumbbells has zero correlation to a person's ability to be a lifter. Zero.
The association of a lifter's skill level to the type of gym equipment they own is made by people who truly don't understand how strength athletics work.

Well, this is probably the most ignorant thing I will read on SD this week. I've been a serious lifter for 15 years and I own a set of Powerblocks. They make them up to 175 lbs per DB btw. Ironmasters go up to 120 I believe. And spinlocks go up to whatever the heck you want.

Yikes. I didn't even look at the shipping but I just ordered 4 45lb plates and shipping for those was only like $75. Crazy it's so much on these
